media player

Post by Bebop0083 » Mon Sep 29, 2003 11:26 pm

ok i have quite a few media players. the recent one i installed was quicktime cause it can play mpeg 4. all my media icons are under the quicktime player. i want to get them to read it under windows media player cause i dont use quicktime that much. actually i hate quicktime period along with real media. my first question should be very simple but my other question has to do with aol's media player. i do not want it any more i tried to disable it but the files keep coming back on every time i connect to the internet. is there a way to stop this cause it gets very annoying. it keeps wanting to put real player back on my computer and i dont want it. thanks in advance.

Uhrm, lets see if I can remember... Theres two ways about this:

1. Open explorer (right click start button, choose "explore")
2. Tools > Folder Options
3. Choose the tab that says "File Types"
4. Choose the file format you want associated with Media Player/Whatever
5. Choose "Edit"
6. Choose "Edit" in the new box that pops up
7. Click "Browse"
8. Find the program you want to use to open the file type.
9. "OK" everything

OR

1. Install WMP update
2. When it gets to the file type associations, choose ALL of them
3. Install as per usual.

Both of those methods will work; but personally I reckon method two is easier (3 steps vs 8 steps)

i think i might of went through steps 1-9. i had to change it to where it was recongizable in the windows media player instead of quicktime. but it worked.
