amd 64 bit chips

yeah the barton 3200 was the last in the xp line...good thing is when i build my next pc i can avoid using pentium

Considering it's not very supported in OS's yet and there's barely no MBs that support it and it's very expensive, you won't be getting it.

Actually, the Athalon 64 is x86-64. In other words it is completely compatable with all existing 32 bit software. In fact, a prototype chip that was tested on the T-Break forums got 20k at stock speeds.

And as far as motherboards are concerned, I doub the lack of motherboards is going to make that much of a difference considering the ones that there currently are will get the job done quite nicely.

Megahert for megahert the XP's have beat out intel. and the only way for anyone to get an intel chip faster than the new athalon 64 involves a massive overclock of intels most high end chips.

i heard intel was also working on better hyperthreading technology, but i'd rather play a 64bit game.

so far intel is trying to market new P4s with a bigger cach that is barely affect the performance, and the new prescot chips are having so many heating issues that they probably won't break the 4 GHz marker.

yea, they are working on that, and P5...P5 is supposed to be the last pentuim, but they are gonna keep making upgrades for it.
