Exam results imminent

Post by Savia » Mon Aug 11, 2003 8:16 am

I think I'm one of the few people on the board of the right age and nationality, but in England A-level results are out on this coming Thursday. That, for those of you elsewhere in the world, means the exams taken by 17 and 18 year olds before they choose where to go on to with their lives. They're not mandatory (mandatory education stops at 16 with the GCSEs).

Anyhow, I'm doing 4 A-levels and my university place is pending my results. The exams are modular, so I've already gotten about 2/3rds of my results back, but nevertheless, this is the final hurdle.

Is anyone else in this situation? Oh, and wish me luck 8) I'll get back to y'all once I get them.

Oh, and my A-levels are in:

Maths
Further Maths (>_<)
Physics

and

English Language and Literature ( :? )

I'm not in that situation (and glad I'm not). But anyways, good luck.

You crazy Brits and your tests. Here in America we just pay or shoot our way to the top. Sometimes sleep, and on rare occasions, sometimes all three.
I'm out...

Hey, thanks, Warpwind... I'm almost 100% certain that I've done fine, but since when was fear logical

A couple of my good friends also have tough times ahead of them- one of them was turned down by his universities, but if he gets his three A's (which in all likelihood he will) he's going to try to get them to change their minds. It's very likely that he was only turned down because we went to a fee-paying school rather than a state-funded one, and they have figures to make up and stuff (real, real bad policies). Another is constantly pushed by his parents to do more than he can, and he's really, really bad at dealing with stress. I'm just hoping that he does OK because he's set himself high targets and he'll just burn out if he doesn't meet them, I know. So I guess I'm worried for them, too.

Look at it this way ... i wrote my second semister finals 2 months ago ... and i ahve no fucking clue how i did ... I don't even know if i passed Modern western civilizations (it's an advanced OAC course ... think of it as an A level, or possibly higher, though not likely) ... i think i passed, since i got no phone call ... fuck i don't even know why i took it ... it's a fucking hard ass course that had nothing to do with computer engeneering ...

The only advantage i have over you ... if you want to call it that, is that i have already been accepted by my college. I've taken my placement tests and paid my tuition and parking fees ... so i'm going there, almost irregardless of my marks ... all i "needed" was a 60% in math ... which was more or less like pissing in the wind for me.

But savia, good luck, i wish you the best.

I had a 95 in OAC Western Civilizations history

I loved that course hehe.

Well, good luck to you Savia, let's hope you don't screw it up.

I loved that course too ... but i'll be lucky if my mark is the reverse of yours. my teacher never liked the way i wrote, and i never liekd doing the work.... however i loved her lectures ... i could have sat there all day and listened to her ... oh, and teh fact that we only had about ... 5 tests including midteram and final exams also shot me in the foot.

Hey wait a second... do you guys get your university admissions before you get your final results? Isn't that a bit backward? Shouldn't you get the results and they dictate if you get into uni? Or am I just reading things wrong?

Anyway back on track, uni isn't the be all and end all of everything plenty of my friends got into uni via the back door rather than with their actual final results. although I think they were pretty devastated initally.
