premiere effects hates me

i just got premiere 6.5, and whenever i try to add effects to the video clip, or even add a transition, it shows the effect on the current frame that i am looking at in the window, but it doesnt show it whenever i play the clip. also, transitions dont work at all. thanks in advance for whatever help you bestow.

Well, the first suggestion would be to read the manual that comes with Premiere which explains in detail your "issue" and solution that

I can give you a couple of hints though: "previews" and "hold ALT key down while you drag the timeline cursor".

yea...... you need to find a red bar thingy on the timeline

then right click it and choose preview.

you'd need to give it time to load... then you should be able to view the video on how it would look when you export it.
