Obviously a n00b since you posted this in the wrong forum. :O Video Hardware is that way.
You also spelt "Hardware" as "Hardwhere", which is amusing.
You also were thinking of getting a Mac, which is also amusing.
What's your budget like?
Man, Ashton and I speced out a dual 1.83GHz Athlon MP system for a little over $1K?
You can go lower tho.
Basic Things You'll Want™
1Ghz+ CPU
512MB of DDR RAM
40GB+ Hard drive
16X DVD-ROM
That's about it, just make sure it says that. Oh and don't pay more than $1,000 for a new system. Not worth it.
You can ask here or AIM me with the specs of a system you're considering. I'll tell you if it's worth it

How so? The man (?) has good taste.klinky wrote:You also were thinking of getting a Mac, which is also amusing.
You're on the right track. Any Mac with a DVD drive will do the trick (hmm... I don't think they sell Macs without 'em anymore, actually). Getting a G4 (or a G5, if money's no object) will make tasks like converting DVD-ripped video a bit more expedient, but I use a G3 with suitable results... things just take a while. Basically just decide how much money ya wanna spend, and spend it!
Keep in mind software, too, though. iMovie is free and quite suitable to make an AMV, but doing frame-by-frame stuff is tricky, and it doesn't use layers so things like overlays are only possible through commercial, hackjob-ish plug-ins or by exporting your video out of iMovie, doing it in QuickTime Player, then importing it back into iMovie. Final Cut Express might be a good investment if you really wanna take things seriously.

yeah, paying more than 1k for a comp usually isnt worth it. but i wouldnt know, i never put together computers all the same time. I just replace parts as they get unusable. But when I do put together computers, it all depends on what i need out of them. and since im a computer gamer as well, it gets expensive with video cards ranging so high. and I would suggest for him to get a 2ghz+ processor, the new Althlon XPs are cheap, get one of those.

O_O wow i wasent expecting this much feedback, thank you!
I was planing on spending abpout $1500 or so, its also going to be my pc for colage. I was thinking that either a the G3, or a self built computor would be my choices.
thanks again for the feedback.
