Which is why I highly respect those who forego the concern/embarassment over the use of some unpopular song and just go and do what they think should be done (example: dwchang's 'Glory of Love' vid. Too many people hate that song for no particular reason... yet, a great AMV)
Haha! Thanks! I was going to reply with that one.
Yeah Wonka, I agree. It *should be* a review about the actual video: how does it flow with the music (regardless of if I like it)? Is there a concept? etc.
Too many people take their personal opinions about a song into it and dock in things that are unrelated. I've had it happen too many times since I chose a sappy 80's song

If I hate the song, I'm not going to watch the vid all that often, so I knock off points for that particular category.
Yeah, that's exactly what I do. I *try* my best to grade everything else objectively. I mean, if a video does a really incredible job with a song I hate (i.e. it flows with it, there's a good concept, they follow-through on it, etc.), I still give them high marks in overall since they overall used the song effectively. The only true personal score in the entire review is "reviewability" and people would know that if they read what each of the scores is about.
At the same time, it is a person's opinion and there's not much we can do about it other than disagree.
