Aestivalis Assault Pit + Apple Computer = Interior Design!

Post by danielwang » Tue Jul 15, 2003 12:37 am

I have just recieved word that we have located another facility and will be completing a transition tentatively within the next 90 days. Of course, the facility is unfinished. Forget the contemporary designs...

Picture the assault cockpit of an Aestivalis. Designed by Apple Computer.

Geometry:
The geometry of the room will be indefinite. Tilted ceiling and floor platforms will be added and corners will be modified to accomodate system devices. Modifications shall be completed as described next:

Lighting / Image Display:
The geometry modifications will be made with CNC debossed polycarbonate (Etched Plexiglass). Plexiglass is from Non-Lowes retail, etching done at The University [free]. Polarized museum microlighting and multicolor LCD from each glass.
The wall and ceiling mods will be easy: the plexiglass is size of wall, so I just add rubber wedgy blocks/
Plexiglass: $5 at Non-Lowes Home Improvement
Debossing and etching: FREE at CU Boulder (my school)
Polarized lighting: $20 with bulbs at Lamps Plus
LCD Lighting: $15 at Radios Hack

Museum Lights:

LCD Modules (I have several):

Table / Aforementioned Device:
Think of the bridge of the Nadesico. With a ThinkGeek case mod.
The design of the multifuction device is designed to efficiently leverage a room's most underutilized space - the ceiling. The multifunction device is actually a set of servo arms mounted from the ceiling from tension response cord arrays. The table is mid-density refraction glass with a special metal backing and laminated with Plexi.
Servo: ABB charges too much, DIY until distributor found
Table: $18 sheetmetal, $30 glass at Carl Zeiss, $5 plexiglass at NON-Lowes
Mounting hardware: $3 at NON[/n]-Lowes

Sheetmetal sample. Scanned image.

Hoeya;

Translation:
We're moving houses and I have the basement. I am going to design it like the assault pit of an Aestivalis, designed by Apple Computer. I will use a lot of fancy lighting and etched Plexiglass with colored lights shining underneath. I will also have interesting servos on the ceiling, a clear table designed like the bridge of the Nadesico and a bunch of wierd curves.

Oh, and by the way, I forgot to credit comeone properly for some of my architectural concepts. Thanks goes to Trygve Lode, who wrote the satirical (but serious) Evil Magazine article about evil lair design at this url:

Evil on a Budget, pg 3. Trygve wrote:an inexpensive way to round out your fortress decor is by hitting a few computer and IT surplus sales....An IBM 3290 multisession flat-plasma display is just odd-looking enough to look higher-tech than it really is, yet obsolete enough to be free for the hauling. Combined with the VAX, the Pertec interface tape drive, the modem bank, and a phone-book-sized Bang & Olufsen remote control, it was possible to decorate a lab without ever having any two pieces of hardware that were compatible with each other.
I rather like those multisession flat-plasmas.

DumbLady: Today on cribs, the less, less, less, less, not even know artist Danielwang created this crib to show you!

*Outside Danielwang's "new" home*

*Camera does that ever known back and forth slow motion movement.*

Danielwang: Come on in and I will show you the room..... I mean rooms *Cough* my "crib" sucks *Cough*

*MTV's Cribs show starts.*

*More back and forth camera of the empty bottles of hand lotion and boxes of tissues that litter the hall way beside the stair way.*

Danielwang: Well this is my stair way down to the basement, so lets go!

*Camera close ups of the tumor on the back of Danielwang's head as they walk down the stairs*

Danielwang: Here we are *wipes face alot*.

*Camera views of a damp basement with wood, plexiglass, and other building materiels just thrown about.*

Danielwang: Yeah..... I suck.

*Show ends with the camera man running away in horror becuase of the dumb...... ness?*
