Underused anime

Post by NPC3000 » Fri Aug 02, 2002 2:20 pm

I see so many people complaining about the number of videos using dbz, eva, trigun and bebop that I thought it might be helpful to start a thread of anime that we would like to see more of in AMVs. So please put forth your suggestions. I'll start it out:

Read or Die - this OVA has been used in 23 videos and 12 of those videos use other anime as well. I'm sure the big problem with it is that it's hard to think of a song that would work well with the plot (I've tried myself and not succeeded) but there's gotta be a few songs out there that could be used.

I think the greater problem with ROD is that

a) its not out on DVD (trust stupid manga video to get the rights)

b) It's only 3 episodes, which isnt a vast amount of footage.

In any case, I think 23 videos is quite a lot. There's literally 100s of anime out there that dont have ANY amvs. I'm not going to go and check the list but you can bet that there arent any Maho Tskai Sally amvs kicking around.

If 23 videos is a lot, I wonder how many originality points you would remove for a video with an anime used up to 400 times AD. :D

Another woefully underused anime series is Kanon. As of this writing I have the only "pure" Kanon AMV on this site -- even though it doesn't show up in the list (stupid edit video scripts, robbing me of hits!) :P

Kanon is a great series. Besides the fact that every frame is infused with kawaii, there's a very good storyline to the anime, and the best thing about it is that it's not overly difficult to express a piece of that storyline (or to make up your own!) without words, as the animation of Kanon practically speaks for itself.

OK, I'm going to justify me 23 videos is a lot for ROD claim.

It finished coming out in March. This year. In japan.

That's only 5 months which is about 5 videos a month. Considering the amount of anime out there I think that's quite a lot for one new show that doesnt have much footage.

Mahou Tskai Sally has been out for 30 years!! :P

In any case, I dont classify originality by anime choice alone. I've just finished an eva video but I think it's pretty original.

I agree that the main reason that some anime aren't used as much is lack of availability. And even if you get fansubs, well, you still have to deal with the subtitles, which clutter up a music video.

But if I had to choose an under-used anime that's released commercially in full on DVD, I'd have to say Jubei-chan. It's 13 episodes, and there's a lot of action and plain weirdness in that series. I've only seen a handful of videos to Jubei-chan, and wish there were a few more.

Come on, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure! And with the new prequel, thats over ten episodes of anime. Where else can you get the classical line "Really it is to be being indeed?!". And anyone remember "Platinum of Star"? Ah, english translations are best left to the good ole japanese.

How many videos you ask? Only eight, half that if you count existance as a necessary trait for a good music video.

Hey, I have your first music video idea right here. For Jojo's Bizarre Adventure you could use "Ice Ice Baby" because one of the characters is named Vanilla Ice! INSTANT HILARITY!!1

PS..please don't
