I need a new OS ...
Ok if any one's been following my painfully long good bye on that "temporary leave of absence" thread ou'll know my cpu is going to be "updated" and my access to evertain areas of it will be limited. I was given teh choice this morning between windows XP and 2000 ... i have bad experiences with both systems. 2000 is the network OS my school uses and i hated it there. My friends all have XP and it's annoyed me when ever i try using their computers. Plus i apparantly can't restart XP in safe mode, i tried doing this at my tutors house to kill some addware that was killing his cpu ... it wouldn't let me ... if XP has no safe mode then thats no good for me. I use it a lot to clean out add ware.
So any ways can you guys help me out, which OS should i choose. At the moment i'm still kinda leaning towards XP despite the apparant lack of a safe mode, but if 2000's better then i'll go for that.

I recently installed XP again because I like to abuse myself. I like Windows 2000™ much much better still though. XP does boot just slightly faster and I do like that. But it seems applications take longer to open. Simple notepad windows stall for a second instead of popping right up.
I think you're better off with Win2k. Just install it, make sure you install Service Pack 3 along with all the stuff on Windows Update.
A good way to not get AdWare is to NOT install Adware. No bearshare, no kazaa, don't say yes to comet cursor and stop clicking on the FREE PORN CUNT SLUTS links >_>. Use KazaaLite, eMule, Direct Connect and other grand non-adware software. Say no to comet cursor or gator. Pretty simple really.
Most programs like AdAware can remove spyware/adware from your computer just fine and all you have to do is reboot. There really is no reason you should have to go into safe mode. If you edit the registry properly and follow removal techniques then when you reboot the spyware program files will no longer be in use so you can delete them when running Windows in regular mode.

i usve to use safe mode because sometimes i get particularly stubborn programs that don't want to die by conventional methods ... they are apparantly being used and i can't get at them with ctrl+alt+delet, so i start the machine up in safemode and clout them there. I've never bothered editing the registry keys because last time i did that i fucked up my cpu and it cost my parents a pretty penny to fix it. (i think i was 15 when that happened)klinky wrote: There really is no reason you should have to go into safe mode.
