Photoshop question

i want to put the soceress i am currently colring in Photoshop, behind a wasteland type backghround...however since for an AP class... im not sure if i want to snag a pic from online..... can anyone tell me some useful tips on creating something similar from within the program?

I suggest making a mask, divide the landscape into sky and land. Select the land add Film Noise and a slight motion blur. That would give a field effect. As for sky, use either Clouds or Difference Clouds. But if you kinda wanna cheat, go to http://www.imageafter.com, find a landscape, and apply filters to it. Adjust Brightness and Contrast, Levels, etc till you find what effect you want... it might even empress your teach a bit more....
