As announced earlier, I am running two AMV contests up in Western Canada in July. Both contest have been structured in a similar manor (there are some differences), but the conventions are in two different cities (14 driven hours apart) and have a completely different set of Judges…
I’ve decided to run the contests since there has AMVs are becoming increasingly popular and there have not been any contests in this area and only other in Vancouver. I would like to try and get a reasonable amount of entries and I realize this is becoming more difficult due to the increasing amount of contests out there. For all you creators who are looking at entering into a contest, I have made every effort to create the best contest I can provide and can offer the following considerations:
- Both the Category winners and finalists will be selected by an experienced and balance group of judges and each will judge the videos independently. I have spent a considerable time assembling each group to try to provide the best balance of fairness to everyone who enters.
- In addition to the category winners, there will be two grand Prize winning videos chosen. One will be by the judges and the other will be by ballot from the audience. Both will get a special custom trophy.
- This is the first ever AMV contest for both Conventions (I’ve provided a short summary of each convention) so this will expose the entries to a somewhat new audience.
- The contest will be shown entirely in digital format using a netstream 2000 Mpeg decoder card. I will have two systems running the contest and one will be as a backup so that everything runs as smoothly as possible. I will do everything I can so that everyone’s video looks as best as possible and gets the best showing and treatment it can. I know how important this to those who enter since I’ve been in lots of contest myself and always hope for the same thing.
Animethon 10 – Edmonton, Alberta, Canada: July 12 – 13, 2003
Animethon is held in Edmonton Alberta. This is the tenth year of the event which first started as a viewing event of anime in the Grand MacEwan College located in downtown Edmonton. Over the years a costume contest, dealer room, display room and artist alley have been added and had attracted over 2000+ people every year. I expect the AMV contest to be very popular and a full event given the popularity of music videos and anime here in the province of Alberta.
AMV Contest details can be found at: http://www.animethon.org/amv.php
Please note the deadline is May 23, 2003.
AnimeEvolution 2003 – Vancouver, British Columbia: July 25 – 27, 2003
Like Animethon, AnimeEvolution started several years ago as anime viewing convention. This year is has grown to a convention size with guests. Also at this convention, there will be a dedicated AMV video room run by myself all weekend long that will feature AMVs, the DDR projects and panels. It will also show all the overflow videos (non-finalists) of the contest, so everyone that enters into the contest will have their entry shown (Provided they meet the criteria of all the contest rules).
AMV Contest details can be found at: http://www.animeevolution.com/index.cfm?fa=contest_amv
Please note the deadline is May 23, 2003.
To make submission easier, there is a FTP site set up for submission to both conventions. All the instructions on how and where to download can be found at both contest’s web sits as provided above. If you plan on entering into both contests, only one upload of your video is require, but you must provide a text file for each contest in the format as outlined in the submission rules … Once uploaded, you will receive an e-mail confirmation within a couple days once the file is tested.
Thanks for everyone who enters and good luck…
