I definitely agree that your video was more of an Upbeat video than Comedy (I would have switched around that and Anime World Cup, as I saw that as one of the videos that I felt was the biggest obstacles that blocked my way in terms of reaching the finals).

With the disclaimer that I am not Otakon staff, my understanding is that the top-scoring videos at the prescreening make finals regardless of category. So if for example you entered the Upbeat/Dance category, you can't point specifically to the videos that landed in Upbeat/Dance as the only ones to have stood between you and the finals.
