Handy visual aid giving raw numbers relating to numbers of allied deaths, Iraqi casualties, bombs dropped, etc.
They also reminded me of this nifty little quote that I recall reading:
"Extending the war into Iraq would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq. The coalition would instantly have collapsed, the Arabs deserting in anger and other allies pulling out as well. Exceeding the U.N.'s mandate would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the U.S. could still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land."

I posted this link before, but I really enjoyed this article so here it is again.

I found this to be rather interesting and insightful read as it gives good overview of the events, politics, and economics that shaped U.S. policies toward the Middle East.

Wow man, way to post a quote that has absolutely nothing to do with the present war with Iraq. Why dont we post some quotes from Mcarther explaining why an invasion of main land Japan was a bad idea too. The relevence of both quotes to the present situation is about equal. Also that casualtie counter is complete bullshit. Theres no way of knowing an anywhere near accurate count of causualties, both military and civilian, on Iraqs side until the war is long over.
