Mpeg Conversion

Post by Alpha_Hazard » Wed Feb 19, 2003 12:26 am

I have been struggling to get my AMV's off the ground because I cannot make Mpegs, I have Sonic Video Factory, and have the files in VOB and AVI format, but they are not compatible with Sonic Foundry, plus they are far to large. any suggestions?

Please restate the question more specifically.

Are you trying to get source footage to use to make an amv, or trying to convert a finished amv into mpeg 1 or mpeg2?

If it's the second one, I recommend Tsunami mpeg encoder. For the first, I suggest buying an mjpeg codec if you don't already have one, and converting your source footage (as clips, or entire episodes if necessary, and you have the disk space) to high quality mjpeg.

The guides found on the front page of this site can tell you more about how to extract footage from DVDs.

TMPG works great, thanks for that suggestion, however I now have the problem of converting VOB, I had FlaskMPEG but it stopped working on me, and the same with xmpeg. Are there any other programs I could use?

Try converting them to huffyuv in virtualdub. You shouldn't edit from MPEG (as has been stated hundreds of times). More info on this can be found in the guides.

Yeah, that's great Too bad virtual dub doesn't support VOB files.

You have to use avisynth to get them into virtualdub. This is all covered in the guides.
