I make AMV's to test the theory that someday I'll get sued by some assclown in a pin-stripe suit for using my legally bought DVD's and CD's to make fanart. Like the rest of you, I make tons of money doing this and hope fervently to distribute as many bits and pieces of various anime as possible for free (along with a bonus song included in the value meal) to the masses.

I do it coz...

1. I can

2. Its fun

3. I'm creative

4. Its a great way to spend heaps of time when you should actually be working on assignments that are due like, the same day...

5. And I like the feeling when someone goes "Wow that kicked ass"

As a repost from another thread, my AMV manifesto:

I make videos. I make videos for myself. I make videos for myself to work out frustrations, anger, to make myself, and occasionally my little brother laugh, I do it to try to convey to others how I was feeling when I made the video, especially if it brightens someone's day. I make videos for collective self therapy, not to boost my ego. I make vids for the Love of the Game.

If I could I'd find whoever did that "because I don't do cosplay/fanfiction" banner and dunk their heads underwater till they scream.

AMVing is not inherently better than any other fan activity - cosplay, fanfiction, fanart, anything. They are all geeky hobbies that we do because a) we love the anime and b) we have time/money to burn. There's no difference.

I used to write fic and have sold cosplay outfits to hall cosplayers before, and I am so fucking sick of the snotty "Well, WE are Artists and YOU'RE just GEEKS" attitude I keep seeing. Usually around people who are basically just newbies anyway.

We're all fucking nerds. Get over it.

I freely acknowladge my own nerdiness... and yes I am over it.

Now we've cleared that up. I make amv's for the same reason I do anything because it gives me something back. I enjoy making amvs. I enjoy sitting for hours in front of my computer and tweaking things be they art or fiction or videos (losing them all because I foolishly didn't save. Now that I don't enjoy). Sure sometimes I put them up on the net and show people but to be honest I get more out of feedback from my family or friends. I gave up on internet appreciation ages ago. I honestly don't care if no one likes my vids because ultimately even with all their flaws I love them. I make videos with songs I like and with anime I like. It's just my little way of furthering my own anime experience.

So for me I make amv's because of the following equation: -
anime music videos = fun
when this equation no longer applies, I'll stop

No that just makes you a violent nerd.

J/k. The art means alot to me too, even though I haven't been able to practice it in 3 years.

I can write, I can draw, I can paint, but all that is messy and costs money and I'm currently laboring under major artist's-block.

I have too many ideas in my head. Being non-mathematical in nature (and my hardrive suffering an unfortunate reformatting incident) my passion for working with my Thief Dromed editor has died to a sullen crispy bit of ash.

So now I mooch off someone else's artistic success to reaffirm my own value in this sick, sad world.

I am so happy! :P

I have followed my evolution of fandom...
first collect oodles of tapes and memorabelia that you can afford...
next go to websites of the anime that you love...
draw fan art...
read fanfiction...
write fanfiction...
make fanfiction/anime dedicated sites...
go to conventions/gripe about no cons in your area  live with the fact and drive to AX :) ...
catch AMVs that freinds have DLed...
take college film and 3d courses...
make AMVs...
next.. cosplay.... oi not yet :)

now for WHY i do it.. Its totally relaxing and fun to do, i love editing footage. I have 5 or 6 people that will watch my vids in town most are freinds and family.... hmmmm :D
