I really enjoyed your AMV actually =D I haven't seen a warm fuzzy AMV like that in a while and the editing was spot on. Definitely was on the top of my list.chui101 wrote:So did anyone even notice my AMV (Defying Gravity)? I'm in the middle of moving at the moment, but once my main computer gets unpacked and back online I'll upload it to the .org.
I've had the song from your AMV stuck in my head for the past two days, lolMycathatesyouAMV wrote:Would like to know what people thought of my vid. (The Diary of Jane one)
Actually, Shinkai is somewhat of an acquired taste. Not quite as dense as a Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli work, but almost as much atmosphere--if not more. I'll admit I immediately fell in love with Hoshi no Koe/"Voices of a Distant Star" from the get go, but 5cm/sec does require some investment in viewings even though it only a mere hour in length.outlawed wrote:Clearly some people in the AMV community are late to hop on the Shinkai train.TsunamiX wrote:Good god, how have you made it this far without being spoiled on 5cm/sec videos?

[Oh, and about Vic's Pick for the contest, I got to see it this morning. All I have to say about it is HELL YEAH I DO, AND THANK YOU.]
Thanks so much. And yes, it's probably ADD, but seeing as I have that myself, I find it even more hilarious that people won't pay attention for long. And I'm so glad the point came across - I just feel like she has so much depth that's just barely glazed over when she's introduced to the audience, and we're made to forget all that depth after she's transformed into comic relief for the rest of that series. She's still a perfectly deep, legitimate character - not just a "plot complication/road block/something people have to deal with" (I'm lookin' atchoo, random Twitter complainer!). And yeah I do remember the reaction being very polarized... I heard the cheer too, and I also heard sort of an "urrrrghhhhh *applause*" reaction too. And yes, that's the reason I kept hanging onto as far as watchability is concerned - the music practically has movements like a classical piece, and it's like watching a series of shorter, related AMVs, tied together at the end by Misa finally deciding to jump off a building.Gaelstrom wrote:Don't worry, the love child of your Misa epic landed very very well in AMVS4I was looking forward to your Misa vid since you described it, and much like Sail On and Girlfriend, you've probably added Poet and the Pendulum to the "Wellp... that one's no longer available for anyone else!" list. As soon as you accept the length, the vid does justice to all the things we discussed before in the other thread. The people who want to get it will. I do remember a very strong cheer on Friday from at least a section of the audience. You could tell that the audience's American A.D.D. mind was struggling to get over itself to enjoy the vid, it's just... well... it's America... so blame Bandit Keith. The fact that the music and video change focus multiple times definitely added to its survivability though.
Yours was GREAT. And I think a song/topic like that was much needed after mine - I doubt it was overshadowed. People probably appreciated the breath of fresh air after ten minutes of the macabre. The only thing that bugged me was the autotune on Menzel's voice, but that has nothing to do with the overall video. XDchui101 wrote:So did anyone even notice my AMV (Defying Gravity)? The middle was my least favorite part. I did as much as I could to spice it up from an earlier version and tie it into the rest of the video, but it's definitely a section of the song that's a huge hump in the road as far as continuity. It was like, "this section of the series goes well with the colors of the music, and I'm going to try and pass it off as Misa watching all the destruction going on around her after her memories are gone and being nothing more than a broken doll Light keeps at home. Let's hope this works."Jefferys wrote: 2. The 10-minute DN, while having an interesting opening for the most part, and a decent finish at the end, tended to sag in the middle IMO. This one too didn't rank higher than a 3.
Honestly, I considered using Poet and Pendulum at one point in my list of storyboarded AMVs I have in my head that will take months to do. And I once dabbled with it in soundforge and edited it down to around 5 or 6 with the high energy parts. Honestly, I don't think yours should have been cut down. For lack of a better description, it is like a classical piece as you said, and operatic. You essentially made the 10-minute rock opera of Death Note through Misa's eyes, and honestly I found myself by the end of the song considering it canon to the story. People were bored in the middle merely because they're not used to the ebb and flow of classical in our society generally. I personally am similar, and tend to listen to the first half of the song when I do listen to it, but with a context, it reaches new levels. Nightwish is very much like a band that does movie soundtracks, but it's a movie soundtrack in their own heads for movies that don't exist, and you either see them or don't. You just hopped on that train and used itHonou_Miko wrote:The middle was my least favorite part. That part is about 6 minutes in and yes, it is slowww.)
Being the total AMV freak I am and going to the AMV contest twice during the con, I have to say the first time I saw your AMV I had the stereotypical "Oh my gaaawd when is this going to end?" reaction. But on Saturday when I was sitting there watching it again I realized just how much of a emotional reaction I got from it. I turned to my friend and she said "Wow! That was intense!". So, we appreciated your work--plus more AMV time for me so I'm not complainingHonou_Miko wrote: Thanks so much.
