Yes, I agree the trend is going in that direction... What's ironic is that people freak out on videos with VISIBLE Effects, but it the Effects hidden or very clever, then are not considered effectsBeowulf wrote: 1. Editing took second seat behind special effects. To me, editing is king. Anything and everything can be said with cuts and fades. While that is somewhat of an intolerant statement the opposite is also true in the sense that all editing tools are just that, and given the proper use, can enhance the concept greatly.

BUT, I do think that there were some good videos that used effects nicely in 2004. Then again, I'll probably get flamed for the next video I'm working on because of theuse of effects

My point is, I wish people would evaluate the effects purpose for the Video rather than just thinking its cool and therefore an awsome video in some cases...
I think there still are good simple story driven ones, they just get drown out by the flashy ones... Truth of the matter is, everyone tends to think that the org is the "voice" of the AMV world, yet a lot of fans of AMVs don't even come or know about this place... Just an observation more than anything...Beowulf wrote: 2. There is no content anymore. Most of everyone's concepts are unforgivably unoriginal and the ones that ARE original are mostly lame. No one is saying anything. No statements are being made in videos recently. And to add insult to injury, not only are these videos not riddiculed but they are celebrated and immortalized in the top 10. This has gotten to such a point that newbies are making fucking threads asking people if its ok if they don't have huge effects in their videos. Its disgusting.
Well, considering this is a hobby, I really have no issues with people who make videos the way they want to... The last impression I would not like to see is people quite or not do what they want to do....Beowulf wrote: 3. All my favorite creators are not driving the AMV scene anymore. The only thing more frustrating than seeing people celebrate mediocrity is to see people ignore greatness. I know people will just call me xenophobic and say that I'm elitist but the new batch of unknown Spanish dudes making Naruto videos with the same fucking band ARE NOT what I call "the next wave" of videos or "the next evolution" of video making. I'm older than most of the artists people are using now. Thats obscene..
What tends to be more fustrating sometimes is that the an "audiance/Fans" of AMVs temd to make a big deal out of some. And a lot of times to the surprise of the creator... I don't see creators at fault making what they want, it's people who keep saying it's the best thing since sliced bread over and over to the end of time to everyone else that tend to make it seem that way...
I see.... I've lost my touchBeowulf wrote: The only people that come to mind as realy creative people with something to say are the Skyline crew. Thats it.

You know... I'm so god damn sick of comments like beowulfs.
I have been here for 2 years now, and there is one thing I have learned out of all this. It's that specific people will do what ever they possibly can to bring other people down and unforchantly. There are enough people to follow those people off a god damned cliff.
I'm so sick of the people who doubt other people. You know what beowulf? You've insulted other people more than almost any other people I know. Maybe not directly, But we all know who you're talking about (as refrenced by scintillas "we all know how you feel about that video").
It's getting annoying, I mean seriously annoying. If you don't wanna be here, leave, Now. Your whining is becoming one of the single most annoying parts about coming here (aside from my posts and opinions in therein posts being deleted).
Look, we all know why we're here... and these people... these... "Anti-effects/whatever they're fighting now" people are getting so pissy that they try to bring down the whole community just because they think this has gone to "shit".
Look there's an opinion box. I know it's a hard thing to think about, but use it. It's there for VIDEOS. More and more I come onto this forum (After off-topic was deleted non-the-less) and more often than not, I find some "old-schooler" tering into someone new because they ask a dumbass question (yes I admit they're dumb questions).
Know what? None of us started out knowing EXACTLY where to go And in that same breath, to the some of you over the year (not just 2004, all of them) that took the time to not critise "newbies" and actually help them.
Thank you, I thank you not just for me but for everyone who's ever not known where to go.
We're all lost... when did it become OK to knock someone in the gut because they didn't know exactly where to read the rules?
Now, for those of you who have said countless times to myself "well, if you don't like how they act, don't come to the org" it's not my porgitive to leave because a few are doing what they are.
I stay here because I frankly love to make Anime Music Videos and I don't give a god damn what people think about what I make.
Over this year, I've been called everything from a "fake" to a "son of a bitch" I've done things in the past i'm not so proud of and to those I "tricked" I'm very sorry but I belive, not only have I improved as an editor, but as a person.
Now, I've ranted on for a few paragraphs here and many of you (who read to this part) might be wondering why I bounced around so many topics.
The truth is, everything connects. The org isn't just an anime music video community. Over this year I have been taught better english by Scintilla. I've been taught alot about computers by Joykiller and I've learned not to drink alot of pepsi before a con (awa: you know what I mean).
This place is about friendship, WHETHER or NOT it was devised as such a place and I'm really sick of coming here and hearing about how one person hates how another edits WHAT THEY LOVE to edit.
If you don't like it, you can just not download it...
More over, you can make something you think is better.
Just a final Year end Note from me.
I don't know if this'll get deleted, it's a possibility but do please note, I was not intent on really hurting peoples feelings by throwing out insults. This was a thought out piece of writing.
I think, In the end.
People need to lightin' up, and if you can't. Then just leave.
It's that simple.

Beowulf if you are so god damn tired of people using effects that overwhelm a video. Then do what I do. Prove that you can make an awsome video without effects or minimum effects that add to the video and help the story flow. I did it this year for Otakon. There shouldn't be a reason that nobody else can. You just have to focus on what the song truely mean and that will hit your audience and have them realize the impact of your video. That's always has been my belief, but however I am adding in slowly more special effects but nothing that will consume my vids. It's your choice you can do something about it by making a video and proving your point or just forget about it and ticked off. Your choice, I can only give this much advice at the time. It's up to you.

What are you talking about? First off, being original and saying something are two completely different things. But I still don't even see what you're saying here. What videos have you been watching to make you say this? I've seen a ton of fresh, new ideas out there this past year.Beowulf wrote:2. There is no content anymore. Nobody ever said the Naruto vids are becoming the Next Thing. They're becoming the next stereotypical Linkinball Z videos, and that's all. Everyone picks on the LBZ videos but for the most part just stays away from them if they don't like them. This wave of Naruto videos will be viewed the same way. If you're older than most of the artists now, so what? You're just more experienced, and maybe, just maybe, could make useful suggestions to these newer vid-makers, maybe some helpful tips. Granted, most don't care or don't listen, but that doesn't mean you can just pretend they're not there because you're older than them. Today, it's much easier to make a video (notice, I didn't say awesome or wonderful) then it was five/ten years ago. You're going to see an increase in the number of editors, plain and simple, so the best thing to do is get used to it. It's happening in all aspects of technology, not just video editing.Beowulf wrote:3. All my favorite creators are not driving the AMV scene anymore. So basically you're saying that there is one good group out there, and the rest of us suck. Thanks man. Now please don't get me wrong, the group formerly known as the Skyline crew is awesome. But come on. They're not the only ones making AMVs.Beowulf wrote:The only people that come to mind as realy creative people with something to say are the Skyline crew. Thats it.
I mean no offense by anything I wrote. I didn't even want to get involved in this because who knows who agrees with me. But your post really got to me. You've basically discredited most of the entire the Org community because they don't measure up to your "standards".
We all just need to lighten up and enjoy this art form like we are supposed to. If you want to make videos and watch them, then do it because you're having fun. People are taking video editing way too seriously lately. If it's not a legendary, ground-breaking video, then no one cares about it it seems.

But those Skyline guys suck!
(omgjk)
As for Beo's comments, they're very typical of him, and he takes videos very seriously. You guys can't fault him for his opinions, but at the same time he can't logically express them as facts, seeing as they simply represent what he thinks. So basically, everyone needs to quit the bitchin on what beo said, because it's perfectly legitimate to simply disagree with him instead of trying to tell him he's wrong (which won't work).
Oh, and VoR, sounds like someone was venting, ne?
