If that isn't a reason to add credits, I don't know what is.

I usually put credits after my amv, but in my "tears are from the heart" AMV, I decided to leave them out because I felt that it killed the mood. I really felt that the quote at the end of the AMV was so perfect that it should be the last thing that the "audience" sees before the AMV ends.

Important reason = felt like it?

For me, it's a pride thing.

Specifically, I haven't ever taken real pride in the fact that I made AMVs: didn't start out that way, never really changed. I view it as something to be swept under the bed, a guilty pleasure that can't be excised. I do put my real name on other work, stuff that I can be proud of.

With all due respect to Fred Rogers, there's a point where his philosophy just doesn't work. I do not find it possible to be proud of something into which you have invested seven years and haven't won any official recognition. If things turned out differently then perhaps my actions re: this subject would be different.

This is the most honest post in this thread, which means it will be torn to pieces.

re: music and anime -- that is a valid concern, and I ensure that the musician and anime get credit in the video metadata, which is on this site.

From my point of view, AMVs are fan-made videos, meaning that as a fan of the footages I used, I'd like to get people interested in them.

Wasting seven years on this hobby even while getting the occasional official recognition isn't something that fills me with pride either. If anything, getting official recognition leaves me with a feeling of "Really? The standards are so low this crap I rushed for the deadline got recognition? The hobby is in even worse shape than I thought." If you're going to take pride in anything, take pride in that you did a video as best you could and like the results. If you aren't proud of that, well, being given a gold star and a pat on the head really won't improve your feelings about it.

This is one of the best quotes about this hobby that I have ever read. Seriously.
