My eyes hurt... too much text... I should really invest in one of those LCD monitors. oh well back on topic...
Joe, The site is just a catalogue, meeting place and... oh I forget the rest of it, for AMV creators.
If you really want to worry about reviews and such then worry about them. I'm not saying that I've forgotten about some of the 30 or so reviews I still owe... no... I've forgotten most of them except yours Jen.
I don't mind much for reviews, big deal. The only awards like that that count for anything, (not that any of them really do) are those awarded at conventions, and for online competitions. Those that are properly judged. Well that's my 2c.

Puni, does this mean I've been dumped?

One thing's for sure,if I ever decided to leave,I'd just stop posting and melt back into the crawling chaos from whence I came, and not make a big deal about it.
I'm out...

"...I've forgotten most of them except yours Jen."

And here I've been hating your guts for lying to me when you said you'd review it.

I waited and waited, but the review never came. I cried and raved and screamed about lies and betrayal and revenge and biblical fire and stuff. But then I realised... you were just waiting to receive the high-res 80MB MPG version on CD. Of course, that must be it! It's merely taken a while for Australia Post to get it to you. That's nobody's fault. So I waited.

...and waited.

But then you tell me you got the CD, which brought great joy to my heart. Surely the time for the review is nigh! So I waited.

... and waited.

... and am still waiting.

So yes, you have been dumped, Decla~san. You kept me waiting for so very very long, and you lost me. That doesn't mean we can't still be friends, as long as being such gets my AMV extra points at AVcon.

We need to calm down

Ok.......everyone take a deep breath and exhale.......inhale...exhale. I don't know why this is causeing such a rukus. This didn't start as a flame at anyone, it was a clear nicely written commentary and he is entirtled to his oppinion.....and he has kept his cool.....Thank you for that. I have been having the same kind of feelings lately about the site and I had posted about the general attitute of the "mass members" and "elite members" and I will agree that the review system has much to be desired, but that is only due to the ppl who leave reviews. Garbage in, garbage out. As far as getting upset about it? Well....i think ErMaC has the right idea about the site. I know this sounds elitest, but its not about who's "better" than whom. Some people take this forum and this site way too seriously. Why is this a big issue that he decided to explain his concernes. Why has this turned into a steal cage bickering match? I guess some people just want to make a big issue out of it for whatever reason. Chill out.....its just a comment from someone who don't know and you never met and probally never will.

Ok, time to come out with my version on this subject...or what I think of it at least. I'm coming out of the closet....haha

But seriously everyone, this may sound odd to everyone but when I first started out couple years ago, people who gave me great artistic inpiration were Hsien(kusoyaro), Will (Aluminum), Joe (Mabrohoshi), Jason (RYS) Eric Jones (FlyHigh),...etc, there are more I can name. Even though Hsien adn Will were my primary inpirations. I think these 5 creators mentioned above are what founded the definition of ART within the anime music videos these past few years.

Each one followed their own path and made videos that they wanted to make and didn't how you say...."Sell Out" to the audience. As strange as it sounds, I somewhat love and hate crowd pleasers. It's not about pleasing the crowd, its about giving a message in the work you make to others....but if you ask me, the org is starting to be filled with nothing but ignorant masses that whine about how one person didn't like their video or something....

I totally agree with Joe on this one that the review system needs major work. At first I was happy to get reviews, now I hardly care because Ihardly get any reviews that are worth reading anymore. Out like 12 opinions for 1 video, I'll be lucky if at least 1 person gets the true meaning of an AMV and the message within it.

So do I care that people like EK and Joe are leaving? Fuck yea!
These are people who gave us the definition of art within AMVs and having some smartass on this board telling them to leave pisses me off. But then again there is very little I can do now.

I'm still trying to convince Joe not to leave because to be quite honest, and I'm not saying this to be cocky, but there are only a few of us AMV creators in this place that have a true grasp of what art is within an AMV.

Watching people like EK and Joe leave this place makes it tough on me and I'm sure to alot of others.

Well, thats what I think anyways.

Am I speaking Greek or another language? The basic point of this is stating that i think a-m-v.org should get back to why it was created and that was to be a database for all videos not a popularity contest. The concept of the crit / review system is very sound, but that is when it is being used properly and currently I think it used more often as a voting system for person's favorite videos. Maybe there should be thumbs up / middle / down for people who don't want to write a review? I know the basic idea of the people giving perfect 10s is because they love the video, but that isn't a review. So why not have the thumb system in addition to reviews for people who just want to give their favorite video praise? Anyone else like this idea?

My problem was with the current reviewing system and that I think a better alternative solution could be devised.
I agree that the standard is poor and some reviews I have are very amateurish. I personally think that there are still members who don't quite understand the system (partly because b4 'that' the site lacked an in-depth opinion guide, but now, even it's there, some ppl didnt noticed it.) And then there are some people, who, instead of writing reviews that try to help the creator, they will just write brief and useless comments just to be quick... Now, is this a flaw in the system or the fault of selfish people? The same q can be asked with regards to how long it takes to get a review. Many people are willing to upload their vids and after that they bitch about it having over 1000 download hits but only one review, but these are usually the same people who contribute nothing to the community. Now I'm not saying this to you, but to the other members (you know who you are.)

Instead of complaining and letting Phade do the hard work, how about getting into the scene and do your part (and do better?) I did quite a few a while back, my first few ones were very brief and useless, but I always tried learning to write better opinions. RubyEye's Dark Legacy is my latest one. I'd write some more reviews and re-edit the old ones but a very tight schedule and 36.6kbps connection speed at the nearest Internet cafe makes it hard for me to spend some time downloading new videos. But that's my problem.

I'm not sure what you're referring to as "that," but ZeWrestler and iserlohn wrote a Guide to Opinions that, in my opinion, is very indepth and has helped me write better quality reviews. It was created 1/9/01, which is been here longer than I have been a member, and was created a week after Joe signed up.
