Remember... depending on how you saw the movie is how you saw the ending. If you listen to the dialouge, there's something aboput restoring the AT Fields. AT Fields = LIFE! But, some people thought the world ended and Shinji and Asuka are the new Adam and Eve. Gainax always has open-ended finales...

I wouldn't call them Adam and Eve. Especially since there may very well be other people alive in other parts of the world. With the ATFs restored, people that can see themselves as individuals will come back.

From what I saw, people could make the choice to become human. So, in my POV, it wasn't SUCH a depressing ending, besides the fact that Shinji was half-crazy XD

Independent life, or Life where Everyone are one?

Hey this may be a weird question...but just wondering...

Did Shinji really strangle Asuka? Or was it just his imagination?

The Comatose would make sense then...
but then he was going through 3rd impact....

I dunno what to think, so if any1 knows, plz say something.

When the Third Impact was happening, it was in his head - basically his innermost desires came out then in his imagination.

When they were on the beach - he did strangle her. According to the creators, it was partially out of frustration, and partially to see if she were really alive and he wasn't still dreaming. It's meant to be a pretty confusing situation then.

Firstly, during the 3rd impact, it is his imagination. After, at the end it is the realty, cause him want to understand where it is, if is it the reality, and he is also quite out of himself. In the end they are Adam and Eva. So.. "Neon Genesis Evangelion", the new genesis of the humanity. Evangelion 01 is GOD.

I was nodding along in agreement until you hit the Adam and Eva part. They are not going to repopulate the planet by themselves. Remember, Yui specifically told Shinji that if anyone can imagine themselves as individuals in their heart, they can return to a human form. However, it is THEIR choice, whether or not they wish to reject Complementation (and the sea of LCL). Shinji and Asuka are the first two people we see that reject it (assuming you saw End of Evangelion).
