A video may contain: -time changes
- masks (since it is just effort)
- transitions (laughter)
- flashes (to a certain bit)

I would draw the line at matters of colour-changes or motion. These are effects, although a fade-to-black is something really common and ought not to be declared an effect.

Sorry, guess I should add something. Furthermore I would not declare b/w and effect, it's something really casual and there is nothing special about it.

@requiett: Hey, you touch something and it is an effect (or has some). If one takes a look at your videos, they are an effect-test-area in some wa :P.

*shrug* I tend not to think about effects as "effects" if they're there to serve the narrative of the video. I tend to think about effects more in terms of eye candy. I don't think anyone would look at those b&w scenes in my video and think, "Wow, that looks so neat!"
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

For me, "no-effects" should at its most basic be nothing more than cuts. More realistically, nothing more than cuts, dissolves, or fades to and from black.

I'm a bit surprised at the apparent resistance to this, since it was all I had to work with for almost six years and my stuff turned out just fine. The only thing I did outside of that was to insert MTV-style titles at the ends of the AMV.

Here's another thought - if i'm using after effects - which i always do - (coz i'm comfortable with it) - and i don't touch the "effects" menu - have i created a no effects video?
*one day something with some effort will reside here*

What did you do to the imported files, exactly? I have no knowledge of AE whatsoever. I hadn't even realised you could make a video, beyond placing the clips that were to have effects added.

One question: Where do we draw the line between pre-processing and application of effects? If I use blurring, it's an effect. If I use smoothing, does that count? It does change the whole image.

I'm curious, if a vid only has one effect, is it an effects vid or no-effects vid?

First off I'd wonder why you were using Ater Effects as a bread-and-butter editor. :P

But if you do nothing but cuts with perhaps a dissolve and a fade to black, yeah, I'd call that a no-effects video. That's like saying "I used a scalpel to cut my pork chop tonight--was I doing surgery?"

Neither, really, but calling it no-effects if there's an effect in there is kind of ridiculous.
