Actually I didn't make this thread to argue what should be number 1 (or whether any video deserves its scores) and I'm pretty sure I've said that like 5 times.

As to the rest of your comments... you are truly masterful in your jackassery and/or dumbassery. That could perhaps be spliced with "wangtastity," that's really a matter that *should* be disputed.

I mean... what do you want? No more competition? No more gratification? Uhhh... a friendly non-opinionated hippie gallery? If you don't want any of that... don't show your videos to anyone! Then no one will compare them to anything else!
AMV is community is starting to assimilate aspects of other communities such as music and movies.
What does that even mean? It's an "anime music video!" It doesn't assimilate music and movies because it is music and movies!
Whats the difference between Euphoria, Olin, and Naruto's Technique Beat? Nothing.

Whats the difference between Whisper Of The Beast, Toushi, Naruto's World, and The Narutix? I don't see any.
That's just stupid... Maybe they're the same because they've "assimilated music and movies" into their production?

I don't know man, this community is only as competitive as you make it. If you constantly look at who's the best and whose videos are better or worse and what awards are being handed out then I imagine the AMV community becomes rather political and banal, but I don't think that most people see things that way. Go chill in the help forums or something where it doesn't matter what your skill is, maybe that will brighten your outlook. I think you've got the wrong idea about people trying to be like Koop or Scorpian or whatever. Maybe you're upset because competition compels people to make better videos, in turn making them more like Koop or Scorpian? I don't really see that kind of competition as a bad thing.

But if you're going to go around insulting everyone and imposing your ego on them, why don't you take your ideas of ball-scratching and dick sucking and "assimilate" the gay community into your music and movie free life.

I just don't even know what to say man. Don't be so bloody belligerent and maybe people will want to listen to you. But then again your seemingly self-contradictory statements, and general discontent with the very basis of AMVs and competition are kind of confusing.

I like Hail to the Thief almost as much as Euphoria if it makes you feel any better ^_^

The Top10% is not ultra-important, and it can't be perfectly accurate as it is, but it would be nice for it to be as accurate as it can be under the current system. There's no reason to base your success on it, but it's a decent guage. It's there to show videos that are worth downloading, and it's been good for that for a very long time, and I think everyone would like that to continue. But there are also other tools on the site for finding great videos.

I'll say this one last time: This thread was and is not about the problems with the system, the problems with the rating system (except this one), how good whatever videos are, or what rank something should be. Go start a thread about it if you want to talk about it; it seems like a popular topic! I don't want to be associated with all this griping and politics, I just wanted to bring up that *one* problem. So... glad we resolved that more or less.

Like I said in my original post, nothing is wrong with competition. TOO MUCH competition however, is a very very bad thing for a community, particularly an artistic one like ours.

What I meant by our community "assimilating" traits from music and movie communities is that the music industry (particularly now) is all about product and profit. The lowest common denomonator is catored too, and if people find something that works, they copy it and milk it untill its not profitable anymore (see: The Boy Band explosion of the late 90s, as well as Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, and Christina Agulara all trying to copy Britney Spears). That is the essence of what I was talking about. I probably shouldn't have used the word "communities" when refering to the movie and music industries so my fault for being confusing.

Also, I'm not constatly looking at who won what and how. All I can make any of these judgements on is what videos I see and what everyones reactions to them are. And as of late I have seen of a bunch of videos that I don't enjoy that look ridiculously similar. People's reactions to these are overwhelmingly positive. This is where my views come from. Not from a chip on my shoulder nor from my ego. I value this community a lot and its upsetting to see it start to eat itself because people feel the need to "win" instead of expressing themselves. Its either that or people's expressions are all the same and there hasnt been a real idea in a year, but I'm not cynical enough to believe that.

I'm not trying to be beligerant, this is just the way I talk. To explain my point a little better I drew a pic.

Image

This is my argument. I believe our community is currently in the bottom right dot, and I would like for us to be in the top right dot.

Fin.

Beowulf: You're missing the org's demographic. The majority of adolescents don't care about artistic value. Most probably wouldn't appreciate it.

Better to appeal to the few who do.

While that may be true, it's also sad, depressing, and shameful

You should totally make a thread out of that Beowulf.

I don't think that the org is as far to the lower right as you think; I don't really see the level of competition here as that much of a bad thing, but then again I'm not really a big name creator so maybe that changes when you do a lot more projects.

Mad_Cyric wrote:Uhh well I saw today that "Whisper of the Beast" passed Euphoria today (frankly because it's a Naruto video), and decided to go check out really how that could be. Well I think I know: they dont' have scoring on "Digital Effects" enabled, and, if you know your math, that will increase your average (less categories means a higher score overall if you're dealing with high numbers). I personally think it's absurd to say that video has no effects, and I also think that its artificial boost in the standings to #1 is as well.

Well that's my gripe this year, I imagine I'll get flamed by all the video's fanboys. Anyways I think maybe Digital Effects should be an available score or something.
yeah lol that got to me for a while... it defaults to 10! That's how stuff like FMA videos get higher scores then technical masterpeices on my given opinions! It's not fare!!... that is, if you care. Still it'd be nice if they (lipping and DFX) defaulted to n/a properly instead of 10. Welscome to 2003, wish I said something about it then I'd be more popular! ;p (Acturally I'd probly just get my thread locked on the grounds of being a juvinile dilinquint or something). Now my thing is Originality.

Don't be sure of this, surely I quote the "sad, depressing and shameful" thought, because generally is exactly like this, but I found a lot of people from 15 to 17 years old to be quite serious and professionals in judging videos and moe than that in judging and appreciating art. Of course, anyway, there are tons of people that are exactly the opposite. But it's normal, since the number of members this site have, that means that a lot (tens of thousands) of people only come here to download videos of favorite anime/music.

I agree with Michelle, it's weird, my 2 biggest fans are teens, all I release are drama videos that I never would have thought theyd like.

Those are my only fans (them and this pot-head)... like I say, popularity has eluded me as of yet lol.... and I have a very adolesant sense of humor it seems.
