Re: Dealing with AMV Fame
At the AWA editor's dinner gathering this year, I remember thinking "hey, I think I know just about everybody here" and then I spotted Shin & friends and was like "don't know these guys!" I was pleased to meet you guys, your vids are all really awesome. .....and people think I'm a girl due to my nick most of the time as well -__-
I remember when I first met Ileia/Fall_Child42/Kit/Niotex/Koop and folks and was honestly surprised at how well known they were online. I knew them from the IRC channel, so it was interesting that every once in awhile I'd be talking about AMVs to random people and they'd have the "OH MY GOD YOU KNOW <insert editor name here>" and I'd get to go "yeah, I hang out with them a few times a year!"
I got asked for an autograph once. It was because a girl really liked Yotsuba and she saw daydream. It was pretty surreal since I was new to AMVs at the time and had just released the vid.
I've had some interesting encounters due to Ponies the Anthology, which has gotten insane hits on YT. I know it's a popular fandom right now, but I'm still kind of in awe of it and how just a fun project between a few friends has turned into a monster. Our panel at AWA was packed. I stopped and talked to various cosplayers and people, and there were a few moments where people went "OH MY GOD" when I told them who I was. It was awesome meeting and talking with those folks.
I've always made the stuff I make because I wanted to, but having people really like it is a nice added bonus

Re: Dealing with AMV Fame
I've had that happen a few times myself. Though more often then not I'll get glomped, hugged, people want to shake my hands, ect. when they find out who I was. For some reason I'm really popular when it comes to this area (and not because they know I work for Youmacon either...) Mostly I'm known for the Dance series.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I've been asked for autographs before - on multiple occasions. Really creepy feeling.
I remember some kid came up to you when we were going for food at the food court a few years back at AWA. That was rather interesting to see.Vlad G Pohnert wrote:Hmmm.. At Sakuracon a not so well known but good editor asked me if I knew who Koopiskeva was, I told her I slept on his couch multiple times and we were good friends. Re: Dealing with AMV Fame
I could probably add that when I walk around cons with my friend Matt we'll get stopped randomly by people who have been to our adult AMV events. Apparently people really love us for showing such horrible videos while both physically and mentally abusing them.... Not sure if that counts as AMV fame, but without vids made by the likes of MJ, SD, and others I wouldn't have any content to be known for showing....

Haha, I got this same thing, when I was living in the apartment with him and Brad.
The person was like "You live in Chicago? OMG, did you know Koopiskeva lives there, too?"
"...Yes. He and AtomX are my roommates."
"Who?"
