My recommendation: Get an xbox slim.
It's one of the new-ish ones, but still 3+ years, so outside the warranty. And yeah, I actually really wanted to get a slim when they first came out, but obviously it didn't make sense. The better ones that don't break down as much were manufactured past Nov 2008.
