Had I not already submitted, if this were made into a contest I probably would not even submit an entry. There's only so much that I can do with Windows Movie Maker. And I feel like my AMVs are... nice. They're like nice tributes. But I know it would get blown out of the water by PLENTY other AMV creators. I'd like people to see my love of a game/series (most recently Chrono Trigger, animated and created by Dragon Ball Z creator Akira Toriyama, a wonderful artist, may I add). ANYWAY! I know I'm not that great. And a CONTEST with greater material might make me feel like I shouldn't even bother ('cause we all know the kind of things that Adobe Premiere can whip out that Windows Movie Maker simply can't).

Driftpeasant wrote:So one last question: of those of you who are/might submit videos, will the existence of a contest or showcase change your entries in any way? Will you submit/not submit/create new/submit old depending on which one it is?

And for those of you who are on the contest side, do you submit to A-Kon any more or less because it's fairly poorly run?

1. For a contest, chances are I would try to make something new for it.

2. For a showcase...I would probably just hand in past stuff I've already made in the 2004 year.

As for Akon, I tend to submit all of my works to Texas Cons when I can. Each contest has their own way of running, but I tend to have patience with it as long as there are other good videos in the contest for me to enjoy :D

MexicanJunior used WMM for a long time. Sometimes he would beat people like me who used Preimere in contests.

What ushicon can do is have both a Contest and a Showcase.

That way, people can enter into either section and not have to worry about competition or their AMVs not getting shown.

Yes....this is such a simple idea that it completely escaped me. :)

For a contest, I would feel I needed to create something competitive. But for the showcase, I can send in LAIN DOES NOT DANCE and feel good. :)
Thus getting the best of both world (the challenge, and the fun).[/quote]

FTP!!!

Post by Driftpeasant » Sat Jul 31, 2004 1:42 pm

Well, we finally got the FTP site up and working.

Right now it's at AMV.HEADGEAR.ORG (this may change to the Ushicon.com site soon, but...).

Please upload to the Incoming AMV folder. The PUB directory will not accept uploads.

Login is anonymous.

Right now we only have 100k/sec on the pipe. It may increase if we end up getting enough submissions.

Also, the fate of the Contest/Showcase/Both/Neither/Riverdance debate will be decided this evening. I'll update tomorrow.

So, please upload early and often.

Happy AMV'ing.

Contest Rules

Post by Driftpeasant » Sun Aug 01, 2004 3:02 pm

Alrighty.

First let me begin by saying: USHICON STILL HAS THE AMV SHOWCASE. It will still take any and all submissions, bounded by time and the guidelines, of course. Because we like the idea of the Showcase, but do hear the cries of those for a contest, we have instituted two LIMITED contests.

The first is the Hentai Music Video contest. It will, of course, be run during the Hentaifest. While I've not seen any child porn hentai (and never want to), and we realize the Supreme Court has ruled it legal, don't submit any to the Con. If you do, we'll accept the video, tell you we're showing it, and then have Security kick the ever lovin' crap out of you near the dumpsters. Also, if you're not 18 and make a submission for this contest, do realize that you will NOT get to see the contest, or the Hentaifest in general. The judging on this one will be a bit odd. We at Ushicon, being fat pale nerds, have been to a number of Hentaifests in our day. As such, we know that giving any sort of paper product to people in a Hentaifest only encourages deviant behavior. So for the "Best Video" award, the judging will be done by audience applause. There will also be a Judges' Artistic Award. So if you've been channelling the spirit of Stanley Kubrick and/or Linda Lovelace, and you've not found an outlet for that yet, please submit something.

The second contest is the Theme Contest. As one might expect, this will be videos with a specific theme. This will only have one award, the Best Video (or some similar yet more high falutin' title) award. It will be decided by the audience, probably through balloting, though we may rig a noise meter and use applause.

There will be prizes for all awards. We're not sure what they'll be yet. Current thoughts are DVDs or engraved Cowbells.

Oh yeah... the theme. Well, since it's the end of Winter, and we're all getting tired of it by that point, and because, more importantly, Ushicon broke me up with my girlfriend (well, not REALLY, but it was when we realized it wasn't going to work. 14 months of my life... wasted... *sniff*), your 2005 Theme is... HATE.

Go, make cool videos. Or uncool ones. We have 2 contests and a showcase for you to submit them to.

Might want to crosspost to AMV Contests forum.

A Hentai AMV contest....hrm.....getting source, and then trying to top the almightly MexicanJunior, it may be too much for me. :o

As for "Hate," hrm....have to be in a worse mood to come up with one for that....

Showcase is set though.
