At great length, obviously.
do you boycott non-AMV in a-m-v.org?

I don't remember who was going on about that, one of the bigwigs here. I mean, it's their site and I stand by any rules... it's just the LACK of rules, that sort of backhanded "You suck, but we didn't tell you you suck before you got here, so it's your fault for our poorly elucidated rules" attitude, that I bitch about.

Well, it's really only one persons site
But yeah, I understand where you're coming from. And things can seem a lot more harsh when you're the one being corrected (spoken down to) than when you look at it from an outside perspective.
I think the best policy, which seems to be in effect, is to just discourage non AMV vids and disalow vids that are 100% live action. That way, most of the non-amv vids posted will be good (usually a better quallity than many amv's)

...and take any opportunity to remind people who didn't know any better that they aren't welcome and to boycott their vids. Yay.
In all seriousness, you have a point there - the fact that talented AMVers branch out into other things (like the NES DDR video) is probably why they're still around. And if somebody had the wherewithal to make a new site for stuff like that, I'd bet at least some of it would be listed there instead and un-taint the .org.
(I'd move mine there in a heartbeat. Matter of fact, I'd take mine off this site if I could.)
But anyway, a new site for the "filth" (
) is a huge task, and nobody seems up to it. Not that I blame them, either.

(jonmartensen u r going to love this sentance) i rely dun care bout ma spelin on da net cuz as long as ma point gets acros it raly dun matter. (i tried making that as illiterate as possible)jonmartensen wrote:I say, catalouge anything short of 100% live action film. As far as the server goes.....It's really meant for AMV's. Things like FFMV's are really pretty derivative of anime and the CG work is very similar to other anime's that are out, so things like that are OK in my book.
And would I be correct in assuming English is a second or third language for you Tidus_F_F_X?.
and as for this comment, im still gonna hav to side with "the stalker" but that is kind of irrelivent.jonmartensen wrote:And BishounenStalker...Anime != Japanese animation
It's a style, even a genre. Just because the style originated in Japan does not mean it is Japanese animation. There is Japanese animation that looks nothing like what would be called anime, and there are many animations which are not Japanese that could easilly be called anime.

Yeah, the whole anime/non-anime argument could be hashed out forever (and it's really only over small discrepancies in definition). It's best to just leave it at "This is how I see it", for each person.and as for this comment, im still gonna hav to side with "the stalker" but that is kind of irrelivent.

That's kind of my view of the whole issue.ek1 wrote:I agree with what jonmartensen said: the database shouldn't be cluttered with non-AMVs.. but then non-AMV creators have nowhere else to go to promote their vids.
From a purely idealogical point of view, there should be no taint of non-AMV-ness befouling the AMV world.
But that's kind of draconican, and some people who primarily make AMVs also dabble a bit in similar/related projects like FMV/CGI music videos, non-anime animated music videos, fan parodies, parody trailers, etc. and (because they're here primarily for the AMV atmosphere and culture) they'd like to keep everything in one convenient spot.
From a pragmatic point of view, nothing is ever "totally" pure, so we'll just have to settle for "pure enough" in our day to day lives. Unless there's an actual problem where tolerating a little diversity is harming the primary focus of this site, I'd be inclined to say we don't need to make a mountain out of this molehill.
Tagging non-anime stuff correctly so that those who'd prefer to overlook it can do so, and not worrying about its "right to exist" will work fine. Enforcing a strict ban will just drive away everyone who makes several kinds of stuff and they'll take both their non-AMV and their AMV projects along with them when they go.

Well no, because that's not an issue. You're not allowed to upload them to the Carrot/Donut *now*, and nobody has a problem with that, as far as I've seen. So there's really no question there.el_farlo wrote:i wasn't saying not to post a link to a vid...i meant just don't upload them to the carrot/donut
Boycotting them would mean refusing to download them or acknowledge that they exist.
And the whole "ANIME IS PURITY!!!!" thing is oh so very wanky (Guys? They're movies and TV shows. Not a religion.), but it's a workable thesis, I think.
