I'm sorry if this question was already made!!

I work with Sony Vegas, and installed UTvideo codec.
Now, it gives me 4 options:
UT Video Codec RGB (ULRG) VCM x64;
UT Video Codec RGB (ULRA) VCM x64;
UT Video Codec YUV420 (ULY0) VCM x64;
UT Video Codec YUV422 (ULY2) VCM x64.

What those mean, and what is the best or the most adequate for compression?

I also installed 32bit version, bue yet not experimented (will instal Sony Vegas 32bit because of other issues, try to most likely).

Each version compresses to a different colorspace.

The first one is RGB32 colorspace.
The 2nd is RGBA.
Third is YV12.
And last is YUY2.

If you don't understand that, you can read about colorspaces in the guide linked in my signature.

Sooo, this is saying is that, it is better to compress in YV12 and YUY12?
If so, I can't quite yet see the point >_<'' advantages and so .

YV12 makes more sense than YUY2 since your footage already is YV12 to begin with and it will make you save space.
Also, Alan got it slightly wrong: ULRG (the first one) is RGB24 and not RGB32, as RGB32 and RGBA are the same thing (and thus you can say that ULRA is RGB32, instead). The difference between the two colorspaces is the presence (or lack) of the alpha (the transparency) channel, which you do not have in RGB24 but have in RGB32. If you want a simple way to keep in mind which is which, here's why they are named like that: the numbers come from the fact that they are 8bpc (8 bit per channel) colorspaces, which means that for every colour on every pixel you have 8 bit. RGB24 just has red, green, and blue, so that's 8*3=24. RGB32 has red, green, blue, and alpha, so that's 8*4=32. :wink:

I've been working with Utvideo for my last vid.
It's really better to decode my rushes in my editing software (especially when I got a little hardware config - i edit with a netbook... 3 years-old... Dell... Inspiron 1520 T_T)

Anyway I would like to know if anyone here got some problem doing rush in VirtualdubMod with the batch jobs option. And at each time, I got at least one or more errors in my list of operations. It's very annoying because I have to start again the missed jobs.

Is it a problem of codec ? Or should I reinstal VDM ?

DO NOT USE VIRTUALDUBMOD!
It's old and unsupported, and you really don't care about the extra features it offers! Unless you want to make an OGM, which I doubt you do.
Use the plain VirtualDub instead, get it from here: http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/
Check which version of virtualdub was used as a base for virtualdubmod, then check which version of virtualdub we're on and look at the changelog... now you understand why we say to use virtualdub and not virtualdubmod. :)

Oh I know VDM is not developped anymore and it's effectively because of the extra features I use it ^^
But effectively, VirtualDub is often updated. So I will use next time for lossless encoding.

Well, all the extra features VDM has are included in Virtual Dub, or can be used with other things such as AvsP
