Thank you for your feedback, pen-pen and Otohiko. I was actually aiming for the
kind of response, so I guess it's a good thing that you reacted that way.
I agree that the ending of my video is kinda confusing. The video is like one big spoiler for episode 8 of Fruits Basket. Here's the story if you want to know what's going on:

I really don't know how to portray the ending of the story more clearly than I already have... any suggestions?Hatori is one of the twelve cursed members of the Sohma family. He turns into an animal of the Chinese zodiac if embraced by somebody of the opposite gender. Hatori also has the ability to erase memories - memories of people who unwittingly find out about the family secret. He has had to use this ability many times in the past, and has grown into a cool, unemotional man.
One day, Hatori meets his new work assistant, Kana. He is immediately touched by her warm and carefree attitude. Through time, the two of them fall in love. Kana finds about about Hatori's curse one night, but she does not mind, saying still that she is happy to be in love with him. When Hatori hears this, he feels happiness unlike any he had felt before.
The two of them decide to ask Akito, the head of the household, for permission to marry. However, Akito goes into a fit of rage at the idea and severely hurts Hatori in the eye. He then screams at Kana that it’s her fault, that there’s no way for her to help those with the family curse.
Days pass, and Kana cannot stop crying no matter how Hatori comforts her. She grows sick from her sadness. Hatori is left with no choice but to erase her memories of their love. When her time as Hatori’s assistant is over, Kana leaves. Hatori cries. But he does not blame Akito, for such is the Sohma family curse.

Maverick: sorry, but it seems like the ruling on the techno music is a no. Your editing seems pretty strong, though, so if you wanted to make a jazz, classical, or avant-garde video we'd be glad to take it. It's possible that I might start a techno-synth-electronic project after this one is done, or that someone else (you feel up to it?) might start one now, but it looks like a line is being drawn here between melodic and pulse-dominated music.
Pen-Pen: I can think of one other really awesome Haibane video off the bat, that being Janski's "The Bird Who Flew To Far", which uses classical music. Unfortunately, watching that a few too many times just intimidated me by sitting so far out of reach.
I don't know about a 'light-hearted' Lain video. It's probably possible (I once saw a Grave of the Fireflies video that made me laugh, albiet mainly through the shear sick irony of the choices of music - unfortunately it's not on the .org), but it'd be a stretch. I do remember a sequence in one of the later episodes using the tune "Just Like a Lizard" (it had a really cool rolling left-hand piano walking bass line with some jazz guitars over it) and a sort of jumpy, random jumble of images and memories that I thought was really cool in a pre-Broken Movie Nine Inch Nails video minus the flashing and Trent hanging from the ceiling by a tangled mass of magnetic tape way. That wasn't really light-hearted, but didn't seem really dark either, but more like that Chigago 'heartbeat of the city' jazz that conveyed a sense of busy chaos loosely connected into a place, a feeling, and a groove to tap your feet to. Yet I can't remember the name of the poet who wrote all those lines about the 'living city' that get matched up with that '20s jazz and a lot of randoms paintings and black-and-white photos every once in a while on one of those American history special. I certainly do know how to ramble.

Well, my point is that I'm constantly trying to do something different. It might even be that I'm afraid of the fact that Lain + Me + King Crimson are too natural a match - but then, the product would pretty certainly be a video that would scare the crap out of everyone, and it seems we already have our share of heavier videos here
I can and will make that kind of video eventually - but I'd like to explore some alternative approaches before I do...
Another problem is that my listening choice in the last days have been getting progressively weirder and heavier, so I'm not getting much closer to figuring out something for lighter stuff.
Anyways, I'm writing my last exam in 2 hours, and after that it's clear sailing for me. Again, if someone comes across for something that might work for Lain, KareKano or Ah! My Goddess - do suggest.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Alright, sudden and unexpected development for me. Funny how epiphany seems to sneak up in odd ways. It seems the answer was under my nose all along, but I didn't notice it - I found my song.
Now, there's good news and bad news...
The bad news:
I'm not sure about the anime to use for it...
and
It's King Crimson (

The good news:
Other than the name of the guitarist, it has little in common with either the tracks I suggested or used
and
It's exactly what we're looking for - even stylistically, it's best classified as avant-garde jazz-rock. I hope I can get this one done within the context of the project.
***
King Crimson - The Sailor's Tale
The video will be about the same length as The Wasteland, and also going into several directions at the same time, but different, more jazzy directions. My concern now is to find the right visuals for it. I'll have that thing uploaded to the FTP later tonight, and I think most of you will agree that even cinematically/in terms of contrasts - it's very good long video material.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. Now I need an anime

(Cowboy Bebop is a natural choice, but we'll see if anything else pops out...)

It's funny, because we don't have a Bebop vid yet. Yet one more anime that I'm surprised isn't just screaming to be used in this project (if only because of the nature of its own soundtrack).
On a tangent, anyone feel like testing a webpage in IE5 and/or IE6? I just finished an update to the Anime section of my website with fixed-position menus and CSS popups and the like, and would like to see whether they work outside of Mozilla.
The menu should stay in the same place on the screen as the page scrolls.
Text should appear in the lower box describing each link (including those in the images for my own AMVs) when the mouse is hovering over that link.
the page is here:
http://www.rit.edu/~cop3958/anime/amv.html
this project's page is now here:
http://www.rit.edu/~cop3958/anime/fantasia.html

The fantasia page works just fine... now, is the AMV page supposed to be missing some pictures, or am I not seeing it right?
It seemed to look better on my home computer with Mozilla though.

No, I'm pretty sure all the pictures are supposed to be there. They just use the standard <img src="someimagehere".... markup, so that shouldn't be browser dependant, and I'm seing one for each video.
There is an empty box on the bottom left where the text is supposed to go on the mouseovers. I know that it works in Mozilla, but since I can't install the IE browsers, I don't know if it would work for the other eighty-something percent of the internet.
