More people will join the amv scene, see the current trends for successful amvs, and try to incorporate them into their own. In this way, I feel a general buildup on previous works is natural; so progress in effects and quality are a given.

I would like to add that the same thing is happening with the music scene, and the connection to amvs will likely have a huge impact [if it already hasn't].

So, do eras exist? Yes, imo. and it probably has to do with 'The most recent trick' and won't be changed until the next rabbit comes out of the hat. [someone said that recently... and I'm to lazy to ref it]. DO NOT confuse 'trick' with 'effect'

For the people that perceive this to be the case, they will do what's already been done in the music scene-- pick a sub-genre and branch off. I'm sure you can think of what some of these sub-genre's would be. Some I would like to see would be Speed, Motion, Story, Cross-over, Effects, Original Animation... apparently Awesomecore too; They would all be bases on style of editing [which usually has close ties to music]. Obviously there will be mixtures, but I still think in the future there will be groupings of videos that purposefully fall in to a particular category. Therefore, I propose the next great era will consist of the branching off of sub-genres [this may span a long period... and has likely already begun imo]. Then each sub-genre could potentially have it's own era, depending on how creative people can be.

Not like I know anything but I would think the real 'revolutionary' thing thats being sprung up now, and what most likely will be the 'new trick' phant was referring to would be videos like this:

...and that other insanely awesome one that hasn't been released yet

Where the editors incorporated live action into their videos. Or at least since these were done so well (and theres probably others I just dont know about) that this would really be the thing other editors would try to emulate. /2cents

Actually, "Vlad" isn't so far from "Vandal"...

On a more serious note I think that Vlad's timeline, with the alterations proposed by Godix, is a reasonable overview of the matter. However I would think that YT has to have some kind of a place in there.

2005: Julian Milo (Beowulf) creates "Dead to the World" which is a 26 minute video and the longest video done by a single person. Many people have done 10-14 minute videos but Dead to the World is the longest at this time.

The AMV HELL series and other long MEPs may be over an hour, but those were done by multiple people.

I seem to recall this exact subject coming up before. Someone once did "The Wall" to Eva, and that's substantially longer. And I'm pretty sure they did it before Beo did that... thing.

And isn't DTTW really just a one person MEP in the end? (A bunch of videos put together under a coherent theme or story) Still good, but that's how I kinda see it.
