Usually if I edit to a song I like, the backlash is not being able to associate the song anymore with anything else other than the anime I used to edit with. Even if it's a scrapped project, I instantly make the inkblot association. Embarrassing at weddings to see the couple dancing to a song, and be thinking of, say, Totoro.

Same thing goes for my favorite AMVs. Less inkblot and phallic symbolism though.

I don't think I've ever gotten sick of a song, per se. I have wanted to gouge my ears out if I'm editing to a song I can't stand. Some repetitive songs tend to sort of wear me down a bit as well. I still have the chorus from "You're the Best" stuck in my head. And, with some songs, if I hear them when I'm out and about, cause me to replay the video in my head. Elton John will forever remind me of FMA now.
Since my kids like to watch amvs, I have the added problem of getting sick of other people's songs though. I swear, if I listen to the bumblee Tuna song one more time....Thanks for that Katie. I appreciate it. A lot.

I tend to listen to songs for AMV projects at least 3 months straight before I do anything about them, some have been regular playlist selections for over a year now. I do find that once I get down and dirty with a project, though, my affection for whatever song I'm using deteriorates rapidly - to the point where I don't want to listen to it unless I'm actively working on it. Kinda sad, it's like I love them to death.

Mitternacht is the only AMV song someone else used that's seriously ever gotten stuck in my head. Funny enough, a certain Hellsing/Blood+/Vampire Hunter D AMV put it there, but it's Advent Children AMV footage the music inevitably conjures up. @_@
