Cool this topic came out to the right time, becaue well... I work on a story amv and yeah it´ll be finished in the next weeks and I´m wondering what people think about it.
Will they complain about the length?
Will they get the hints and the whole story?
...
Well there are a lot of questions, but I´m pleased because I created my own story and the stuff I always wanted to see in an amv. I want to get all stuff and comments of my viewer and when they say: "Wtf?"... hell I´m happy with it! Because I want to see how they react on such things and if they do this way... it´s fine!
Years ago I didn´t really want to make something with emotional stuff, because I thought that it would be harder to capture emotion than editing a good action amv. So of course I started an action amv... again =/ Mhmm... good to see that I might be right on that.
Today I hardly see videos that I watch often in a week. I watch most of them and than leave them on my harddisc. Even if they´re good ones and so high oped or rated, because I still give no shit about them. I miss most simple good old action amvs without story. Just motion to music. That´s it! Sometimes I don´t want more, but I can´t take another Naruto amv with overused effects or effects that don´t fit at all or don´t give a shit to the video.
The most ridicolous and strange MAD ever was the one with a song from Sum41. That was strange xD
It´s interessting about to hear other thoughts about the hobby, but I don´t agree with some stuff.
I showed some amvs to a 24 years old friend of mine, who is a really big fan of the old (like beo would say:) good amvs and most of the time he doesn´t give a fuck about them. The left a reall whatever-feeling on him.
A lot of shit is overrated these days and that´s a sad fact. The tube doesn´t make the fact better, because it opens the amv world to a wider audience and how to we atract the masses? Yes! Take the lensflare... oh no sry... I mean the basic glow crap.

Not only that.Minion wrote:and about no epic anime getting released.
i think theres always been a consistent flow of both shitty and good anime.
To adress this point, I always find it funny if someone is complaining about anime sucking nowadays without watching anything. There are 20 to 50 new series coming out every season, and yes, most of them suck. But there are always some nice shows to watch, and every once a while (maybe only once every few years for some) a really brilliant show comes out.
Look at the anime you pointed out: Akira (1988), Cowboy Bebop (1998), Berserk (1997). There is a large timespan between those, and you propably didn't watch them along with other stuff which came out that time. They are Classics. After you finished watching said Classics from whole _decades_ of anime and become bound to watch recent stuff you also get into sucky shows which were just left without recognition back then. As Minion pointed out, Anime has always been "crap". It's just that you didn't get to know all the crap from earlier times.
I've been watching anime since 7-8 years now and still love it, maybe even more than ever before. If you lose interest in anime, that's just fine, but people blaming that on recent shows being bad, that's just plain false.

LOL! MAD rant was awesome, i'm glad i'm not the only one that thinks japanese music/pop culture sucks ...but what do u have against techno and big tits
lol
As far as effects go, i'd be lying if i said i didn't like them. But more to the point, i like them to be USED in a interesting way, when i saw NTB, that was something new, i liked it for a bit. Then BTB was the same, and i was bored of it right after watching. When i saw from the ashes, i was amazed by how the story was re-directed and shaped (not to mention the good editing), there are aspects of most styles that i like. Guess i'm just not picky.
interesting take on the whole ADD thing, i'v heard it before but it makes a bit more sense now.
All in all though, i think you think a bit too much, just do what you want. Have some fun. Your have good lecturing skills though, i must admit.
And last but no least ... it thought your name was pronounced 'bee-oh wolf". See, you learn something new everyday.

That was cute, and your voice wasn't annoying. You provided an interesting perspective.
I don't really have any connection to your opinion though, having only discovered anime a short while (3 years) ago and being not quite old enough to be in your "older than 20" category, I'll just say that I'm not tired of anime.
I'm not about to help turn this thread into a "I like these new shows, post what new shows you like" list but I will disagree with you on what you said about new anime being crap. In my opinion theres at least a few worthy of comparison to the "legends" you mentioned.

Nice rant, can't say that I disagree with much of it. One thing I would point out though, is that there is a wide range of emotions that people can connect with on an AMV. If a video can make people laugh or feel happy, then I think that's just as valid as some video that displays drama or whatever.
