Might as well go for the 320s for another $20 (was only $15 more last weekend IIRC).

I always keep my AMV collection on my external. Thugh I have gone through 2 100 pack spindles of DVD-Rs in the last 2 years. They're good for archiving certain things that you're more likely to not forget about but still not likely to use all that often.

That is exactly were mine are located. I actually even edit with external hard drives. My last AMV was used using NGE End of Evangelion R2 with this AVS script

Code: Select all

loadplugin("C:\Programs\Programs\dgmpgdec140\DGDecode.dll")
mpeg2source("H:\Neon Genesis Evangelion - The end of Evangelion\end of Evangelion b.d2v")
Crop(8,0,-4,-0)
Lanczos4Resize(848,480)
HQDN3D()
AssumeFPS(24)
HQDN3D is suppose to slow things down quite a bit and I was editing with that in my script and play back was completely smooth.. and this is gonig through a External USB 2.0 drive and Vegas 6.0. Even fades and other effects played smoothly. It's like this with all my other DVDs copied to external harddrives. I edit with them directly in the video editing programs I use and they run just fine.. and they take less space than having a shit load of clips converted to huffyuv/legarith and even play back is better than it would be if I used those lossless codecs. There is more technical stuff about this on my video description pages.

by the way I used Vfapi to get the vobs to work in Vegas with the the AVS scripts. :wink:

I thought it would be fun to do an explanation on my star reviews.

5 = Far above average 76 [I don't believe in perfection much and it's hard for me to give something a perfect unless it's absolutely outstanding! I have to get that feel good all over sensation in my body usually to give it this.. ya know that chill/tingling feeling you get when you really enjoy something. These are just about the only videos I give 5s]
4 = Above average 177 [If I really like a video it gets this.. if it doesn't make my jaw drop, put me in a tranced state, or give me goosebumps it's going to get a 4 and not a 5]
3 = Average 608 [if I like a video, the video has some form of well done editing, on a technical side doesn't suck, timing exists at least in half of the video then you're going to get a three.. a lot of meh videos get 3s. . . lol]
2 = Below average 188 [the video sucks.. they at least have timing in a scene or two.. then you are getting a two]
1 = Far below average 91 [WTF!!?? Where is the timing.. the footage doesn't fit to the music, the visual quality makes me want to cry. These are all reasons that are going to give you a two]

just thought I'd add somewhat to this topic instead of making it just a list topic. Also it's nice to give an explanation to your ratings. :lol:

Ehh, what the hell...

You have downloaded 458 local videos totaling 26.4 GiB.
Average Star Rating Given By You: 3.00

5 = Great all-rounder, or a video that I consider meaningful. Will watch it far, far too often 28
4 = Close to a five, but no cigar. Would recommend to someone who expressed an interest in AMVs 111
3 = Above average, will keep around for watching if I'm in the mood 177
2 = Your average org vid. Might remain on my hard drive if I like it enough 104
1 = Your average barely-edited fansub vid made by someone who's just discovered this crazy little thing called WMM (or cracked Premiere) 31

I remember last time we did this topic my numbers for each category were about equal, probably because I'd exhausted the recced videos and started trawling the site. Now I no longer do that, and tend to stick to stuff that looks half-decent or interesting.

I would mention the criteria for each category, but it would be meaningless as a video I gave four stars to a while ago might get three or even two if I downloaded it now.

Won't give you my numbers, but my breakdown as I see it:

5 - Outstanding
4 - Better than Average
3 - Mediocre
2 - Ugh
1 - There is a special place in hell reserved for you

All 5s will be saved and rewatched. Most 4s. Many 3s. No 2s. I probably don't even finish watching many 1s.

You have downloaded 1265 local videos totaling 65.6 GiB.

5 = 617
4 = 439
3 = 151
2 = 33
1 = 25

That's somewhat easily explained by the fact that I generally only download stuff I find on the forums, and I'm a little on the easy-to-please side as long as there aren't many glaring technical errors.

Again, like others who've posted, this isn't accurate sofar as total AMVs is concerned, since my AMV watching predates the Carrot/Donut (by close a year, to be exact).

I usually back them up on CD-Rs, but have since moved to DVD-Rs (granted, because of the method I use, it's more like a few CD-R sized archives stored on the DVD-R, but w/e). The last video archive file I made was #140b. My backup practices are just this side of crazy, though, so take that as you will.
