NOTHING worked? Not even holding down "shift"?

way out: Try copying the files with ctrl+c and ctrl+v and convert the copied files.

Probably won't work, but you've got nothing to lose.

Then buy it flowers or something. Crap, don't you have a friend and a pendrive? Rip the CD on some other computer and copy it to yours.

Have you tried looking for a firmware update to your cd drive? That helped me once.

I'd suggest getting a lot of screencaps. get one for every step (maybe not every step...but enough to let people know how you are going about trying this) and upload them all to www.imageshack.us
post links to all the screencaps.

someone may be able to spot an error in your technique...maybe (but at this point, it's worth a shot)

Okay I think I can solve this pretty quickily (explanation wise)

1) Did sony or any of it's affiliates produce the cd? (The only exception is Tubthumper by Universal. For some reason the cd's got a funky encode that gives you an error)
Here's an umbrella list of Sony Affiliates -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_M ... ertainment

2) Are using XP with Version 10 WinMediaPlayer?
3) Is your CD just not showing showing up when go to the rip to the rip tab in WMP?

If you said yes to all of these, then congratulations you've been F*cked by Sony.

Here's the run down. I'mm bettin this guy has the same problem as I am on my computer. On one hand, every time I try to copy/rip a sony proprietary music CD realeased somewhere past 1997/8, it fails to show up. However if I put in another cd that's an earlier release or made by one of the other two umbrella music brands (Universal/one I can't remember) it reads. If your wondering why this happened go back to about 4 months ago.

If anyone has a good memory, you should remember Sony's big and fouled-up attempt at copy protection (which was pure shit to enact as such, anyways). Because the software caused some security problems for Micro$oft (which really pissed them off to the point where they don't talk to them anymore), something had to be done. Eventually (here's where my memoray gets a little sketchy) a patch was released by Microsoft and Sony, both seperate endeavors. Eventually, being that Micro$oft forces you to update your computer eventually (you can ignore it, but I'm pretty sure you'll download it anyway), you had to download something that doesn't allow you to look at the files. Please note that I have had some other abulms outside Sony Music that hasn't been able be read in WMP.

This is my theory and I feel it's pretty sound. I'll back to find out the results.
