oh yea, and any smart person would BACKUP THEIR VIDEOS DUMBASS! it's a simple concept. i back up all my distro copies and masters (well not all the time, i did deleted a master copy recently >.<). relying on someone else to keep track of your own videos is stupid and selfish. unless they are providing a service meant to maintain "Backups" and not distribute.

its not like Phade is covering his own ass, doesnt he have a family to worry about? to me his family is way more important than video hosting, and I dont blame him one single bit for caving in at the first sign of trouble...

though true caving in would be to remove ALL the videos from the servers, at the first sign of trouble... Phade just cut his losses, and did what he could.

and Youtube has been recently cracking down on "coppywrited" material... people have recently been uploading WHOLE EPISODES fansubs, and american television shows alike, and Youtube keeps deleting them no questions asked because people keep flagging them. I havent seen them go after any fanvideos... yet, but that could very well easly change in the future.

plus Youtube is a crappy "back up" (same with google) because they STREAM your videos and not allow for DOWNLOAD so if you lost it you lost it... always back up your stuff and never rely on someone else to do it for you >:O

thats my piece.

If you see something there you want to download, go here.

I a lot think people take their membership here way to seriously. Its a privilage that your here. Phade runs this place, he can boot you, delete every video youve every made, all your reviews, all your forum posts, and even though your world would end, its completely within his right.

This place is a benign dictatorship. You have absolutely no rights here, thank god the owner is awesome.

Dude, I think you're taking that a bit far. I mean, it would suck to get the ban-hammer, but "world would end?"

I dunno. This is a nice site for hosting, but a tiny part of me thinks the Geo guy has a point, as frothing-at-the-mouth rabid as he sounds. It WAS shitty what happened, and I feel sorry for the people who got their vids axed. Couldn't Phade have struck a deal with Wind-up though? Or at least made some kind of super-uber-hyper disclaimer with all the ownership info and such? Though I think there was a thread that had all about why not.

Really, though, the best way to go is multiple hosts. Upload here, upload to trackers, find a friend wiht a website and a fat connection and ask him to host. That way if one goes down, you're still covered.

As for backups, Geo needs to get himself a tape drive. That'll handle the raw video files no problem.

I found the VirtualDub/Linux comment somewhat humourous, as well as the assertion that people leaving due to having their videos revoked means less pledges and therefore far more difficulty in maintaining the site. No matter the fact that A) those that donated are likely not in the group to ditch just because of something of that matter, especially in the context and facts it was presented in - it was understandable and smart to concede, despite how much frustration it caused - after all, I'd be willing to bet that most of the people that got their video downloads disabled don't donate anyway, with the exceptions that also probably frequent the forums regularly; and B) less available downloads = less used bandwidth = more freed costs. This is also assuming that people only donate because of the hosting, which I'm sure isn't true (my memory of the pre-Dangling Carrot 'Org isn't too clear anymore, though, so take that as you will).

Sure, other videos or other videos by those creators that ditched may still be there, but I mean, how many actual available downloads actually had to be disabled in the Wind-Up incident? Any estimates on freed bandwidth resulting from that? I'm sure that while videos to presently-OK music will catch up and fill the gap left by the absense of Evanescence, Creed, and Seether, that it still means that much less bandwidth being used that would have been allotted to those videos.

I do agree that it did seem quite a bit like someone who had a bone to pick on here, though.

This is kind of like getting upset that your free meal that youve been eating everyday suddenly got taken away and you had to pay for it. Welcome to the World.

Name a good Creed/Evanescence/Seether video. This isn't the end of the world.

Troll?

Try "raving madman."

Guy needs a chill pill. Like I said before, sucks to be the creators who got their stuff taken down, but jeezus...guy watches too much Tarantino.

I'm just sticking with hosting in as many places as I can. No offense to a-m-v.org, but it's still just one site. The more the merrier.
