I've seen a few of your videos and the mp3 compression is quite noticeable with the pops in your audio so perhaps work on your own videos before making a guide.
First off, get the CD and stop compressing an already compressed mp3, it leads to a very badly sounding audio source.

Dude, it depends on Which videos you've seen. My latest are surely compressed trough CD audio. And I anyway have the knowledge to know how to do it. Just let me know what videos you've seen.dwchang wrote:I've seen a few of your videos and the mp3 compression is quite noticeable with the pops in your audio so perhaps work on your own videos before making a guide.

The loss occurs when people stop with that mindset.madbunny wrote:I'd say let him make his guide. It sounds like all he really wants to do is to put the steps down into a simple format like :
Step 1)XYZ.
Step2)XYZ
And so on... If it's a good, functional guide where is the loss?
Simplified introduction is good if (1) that's all a person needs to know or (2) there's an incentive to learn more. (1) is false (unless someone can prove me wrong on that). Does (2) exist here?
I feel that it doesn't exist. Not because advanced methods bring trivial gain or because the simple, ham-fisted methods always work, but because mediocrity tends to be accepted as "good enough" as far as the technical issues go -- and so it's no longer a stepping stone.
Then research it. If there are unknowns in that research, research that. And so forth.dj_ultima_the_great wrote: Thank you, madbunny. That's exactly what I've wanted to say since I first saw this thread's opponents. I'm getting sick of being a n00b equaling laziness. Sorry, some of us just don't get it.
"n00b = laziness" is your perception. If you read what I wrote, I've never made that equivalence.
Maybe I'm cynical, maybe I'm pessimistic, or maybe this is technocratic elitism or some other cool-sounding label. I'm opposed because I don't see it bringing any benefit that a little extra research can't also provide.
But whatever. Do it, and I guess we'll see what happens.

I tried writing a guide for vegas once, till I realised that everything I was writing down was in the manual and I was simply rewriting it in a way that a 10 year old would understand with ease. A 10 ear old however, cant get vegas unless his perants are rich and stupid. Niether can a 14 year old unless they shell out $100 for vegas movie studio. In that case they're probably dedicated enough to learn the program themselves and read the manual. A simplified guide for newbies on a technical activity is nothing but an excuse for thoughs people to be lazy. You may as well put a BT guide in thier and give them torrent links to get the latest version of premier plus the trial crack.

A simplified guide has nothing to do with laziness, it's a question of understanding. A guide, like it's name implies, should show you the right way. AD&E's guide is too complex for many people, and so it confuses them instead to bring them on the right way. A simplified guide, if well made, would be good. So do it, Mike.

I'll be on the neutral side here.
On the one hand, perhaps making another guide for introductory purposes is a good idea. Psychologically, it will help the newbies I think, especially if it's quick to answer some key questions and give them a clear and plain idea of what to expect.
On the other hand, the existing guides are complex not because they're bad or unneccesary - but because video editing IS complex. Mind you, this is coming from someone who outright hates every single technological aspect of AMVs. But I full-well realize that without that knowledge, editing AMVs on any level of 'professionalism' would not be possible, and many questions would constantly pop up for answering which that knowledge is required (hey, when I want to know what I'm doing wrong, I don't go to Phade's 'guide to good AMVs', or immideately start panicking and whining on the forums. I go and Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides.)
Ultimately, what I think you should be looking for in your guide is not to make an alternative to EADFAG; you should look to make it as an introduction to ease people into EADFAG and make them better-prepared for reading that guide, emphasizing the need for patience and willingness to learn.
Otherwise, to use a metaphor, it's like teaching kids about sex without explaining the physiology of reproduction. It results in a lot of mindless fucking followed by "omg what did I do wrong?"

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Not the theory parts.JudgeHolden wrote:Well, of course this is all mute for MAc users, since the guides are Windows-centric anyway. :(
I know, everyone thinks they're worthless, but they actually do help when you're trying to take ideas illustrated on one system and reimplement them on another. Really.
