I didn't know people cared so much about this post! Looks like I actually have to take time and read each comment.
trythil: I do know that not all people can act, and maybe something to drink would bring something into their system ^_^ A lot of the cosplay acts I've seen though have been pretty good.
mooooo: I can understand what you're saying about the whole sappy AMV panel thing, but a lot of the panels I've been to have been very informative. My first one I attended at Shoujocon 2002 actually got me very involved in AMVing and I try to go to AMV panels whenever I can. Otakon 2003 was also a very good panel ^_^ However, neither of these panels had drunks on them.
Bogosort: Of course I do. Personally though I think Premiere is hard to look at being sober so being drunk must be *very* different.
dokool: The only person I know that's on the panel is Vic, so how could this honestly be a leet rant. I also love the whole another thing, considering how I've only ranted to my friends and to those I think are leet. I'd like for you to find another attack of mine on a leet group on these forums. It'd be most intriguing. Maybe I've forgotten about it already. Reciting AD and ErMaC's guide would probably be the most boring thing ever, seeing as I don't even follow them. That might be better for a workshop of some sort. As for being on a panel and attending a grand total of 1 panel, congratulations, I'm glad you can tell diversity. Sadly though, I must say I've been to AMV panels from 4 different conventions, and am a panelist on the Shoujocon 2004 AMV panel. I do know what a good panel is, and honestly this doesn't sound like one.
dwchang: You must've been sadly uninformed. The title of this post is "Katsucon AMV Panel". Sadly the words "leet" or "rant" are not in here. Open your eyes dear.
All of the other posts do not pertain to me, so they need not be commented on.

The point that I was trying to make(though indirectly) was that an amv panel should focus on the creative aspects of the amv creation process, rather than the actual drudgery of using software like AE, Premiere, FCP, Cinelerra, notepad. Some people are more creative while sober and staring at a timeline, others find that alcohol helps them loosen up enough to be more creative, still others come up with all of their ideas as a background thought process.Fungie½ wrote:Bogosort: Of course I do. Having never been to Katsucon, I have no idea about how the AMV panel will be or if it'll be worth going to. But rememebr, it's a con, you're supposed to be having a good time. If you're going to enjoy the cosplay more than the AMV panel, then you should get your money's worth and go do that. If you want to hang out with the various amv people that do nothing but rant about how L33T they are, then maybe the amv panel is for you. Or maybe if you enjoy hiding in the shadows, stalking your prey, and slaying your enemies, maybe you should head over to the Navy SEAL recruitment booth rather than an anime con.

Who says you can't do those things at an anime con.BogoSort wrote:...Or maybe if you enjoy hiding in the shadows, stalking your prey, and slaying your enemies, maybe you should head over to the Navy SEAL recruitment booth rather than an anime con.
I think I'll go to the amv panel and rant about those tricky people who troll their Otakon videos.

I completely understand what you're saying. If you read my comment towards dokool, you can see that I said that reading the AD and ErMaC's guides would indeed make a boring panel. So yes, I do get what you're saying. But lecturing to someone when you can't even see straight seems a little funny to me.BogoSort wrote:The point that I was trying to make(though indirectly) was that an amv panel should focus on the creative aspects of the amv creation process, rather than the actual drudgery of using software like AE, Premiere, FCP, Cinelerra, notepad. That's an, um, interesting interpretation of my posts. Let me try and get what you're saying. Speaking up is hiding in the shadows, talking directly to each person is stalking my pray, and voicing my opinions is slaying my enemies. If I'm talking about an AMV panel, why would I go to some army booth? I go to anime conventions to have fun. I am hanging out with several AMV creators at the con but I also have my own personal friends I'm hanging out with.BogoSort wrote:Or maybe if you enjoy hiding in the shadows, stalking your prey, and slaying your enemies, maybe you should head over to the Navy SEAL recruitment booth rather than an anime con.
Maybe you should actually try to make some sense sometimes. It'd be a good start.

I thought there never actually was anything like that and that it was just a misinterpretation on someone's part.dokool wrote:Fungie½ about half a year ago wrote:It's unfair that the Otakon AMV Finalists would do a group photo because it excludes those who didn't make the finals! Elitism, I say!*
But if there was, then how did I miss it?

What are you talking about? I'm taking a cue from VicBond007 and claiming that a remastered video with a couple of minor edits is a completely fresh new video for submitting to a con.Senta wrote:I think I'll go to the amv panel and rant about those tricky people who troll their Otakon videos.
Maybe you should actually pay attention to the point that I'm trying to make rather than reading everything that I say literally. Sheesh, I'd like to think that an amv creator would try to see beyond mere words and search for such deeper meaning. But the point that I am making(since I have to spell it out) is that you should do whatever you think will entertain you the most at the convention. And since you're misinterpreting, the reason why I was babbling in this direction is because you did mention that you were going to the cosplay, and I was defending your decision. Anything else you want me to give a direct answer on, or shall I go back into my typical backasswards method of answering questions again?Fungie½ wrote:That's an, um, interesting interpretation of my posts. I'm glad you didn't think I was talking about you, as I read the thread again and realized one could, possibly, read that into it : )Fungie½ wrote:All of the other posts do not pertain to me, so they need not be commented on.
Anyway, I actually have to agree that I don't believe panels should get too out of hand. A lot of younger kids atend these panels, and people like me shouldn't be sitting up there announcing "FUCK [such and such] because I'm DRUNK!!!" It isn't helpful, and not everyone paid to see that.
On the other hand, I don't think it's wrong to have a few drinks. The reason I drink on panels is that I'm usually boring up there and/or don't say a word if I don't knock back a few. This is why I'm not trying to get on any panels anymore really - other than AWA, which is just insanity anyway and the crowd seems to come to the Nightowl Pictures panel for just that; and Animazement, where I won't speak much, as I hope to simply moderate, being the commander of all things AMV now.
It did get out of hand at Katsu last year, and although I did attempt to throw in a bit of insight (not to mention not agreeing with many things that were going to be/were said), it became insane. I invited a few people, a few people invited a few more, and by the time the panel came around, we had about 30 panelists, all but three or four drinking (most loud as hell, including myself). I suppose I was just too use to AUSA, where the crowd was mostly made up of friends and fellow creators who didn't give a rat's ass. Who thought anyone would attend? : )
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Have fun responding or ignoring, I'm getting ready for Katsu.

Obviously there are ninja mods patrolling the forums, selectively changing people's posts randomly to suit their sadistic whims to cause conflict among the amv community.Scintilla wrote:I thought there never actually was anything like that and that it was just a misinterpretation on someone's part.
