I also try and take a step back and understand what the "intended" viewer of the video might see and enjoy in a video. I might not like DBZ vids, but I'm not going to outright punish the creator for it, though it will lower the review score simply 'cause really, I don't care to watch them over again all that often.
Wow you grade just like me and well...I think other editors would appreciate that type of courtesy. In particular, I don't generally like action videos. The videos *I* generally make are romance or drama and thus rely on some sort of story, character relationship and so on and action (to me) just doesn't do it for me.

However, as you said, I still grade based on what they INTENDED to do. People have a tendency not to read what each of the scores is and just do whatever they please. The "overall" score is basically: "Does the video do what it intends to do?" Who cares if you hate it...if it is an action DBZ video...does it do it well? If so, then you should give it a high overall score.

The only "personal" score is the "reviewability" score and it makes sense this is the lowest one in the "global averages." All the others are either black and white (good quality vs. bad...good timing vs. bad) or fairly well-defined (like overall being how well they execute).

So yeah, that's how I grade and I'm glad someone else read the instructions :-D.

Originality is also a pretty personal score as it is often largely based on what the reviewer has or has not seen.

Some one who has just started watching and reviewing AMVs will probably be more lenient and give out far higher scores for originality than a reviewer who has seen lots and lots of AMVs. It seems certain that this latter individual will probably be a bit more knitpicky with their originality scores. I've certainly noticed that my originality score average has slowly been dropping the more I review (though there are the occasional upward spikes).

Some reviewers, I have noticed, go and do a search to see how many times the particular song or anime contained in the amv has been used. However, personally, I don't think that's a very credible way of gauging how "original" a video is, especially if the only video you have seen with that particular song or song/anime combination is the one you are reviewing. Two creators could do entirely different things with the same song/anime combination. Knocking off points based on a mere search of the database seems a bit shortsighted.

Ah! Good point! Thanks for point that out. Basically I was commenting on "Overall" and how *most* scores are fairly black and white in how you should grade. So yeah...now it's all, but two. Thanks alot :-D.

Yeah, I agree. Lately my originality scores have been fallling. However, I do agree that two creators can do a song entirely different. I made a vide to the song "Glory of Love." My friend Hsien Lee/Kusoyaro has also done a video to this (a long time ago) and watching his, I realize that we attacked the song slightly differently.

So yeah...I think originality should go much further than "this anime/song has been used." If a person uses the anime/song in a way that has never been done before...that's original. *To a degree,* to me, if a person does the anime/song exceptionally, I think that's original. I mean to excel is original yes? Rather I mean to do something well is away from the norm. But again, I only do that occasionally.
