Out of curiosity, do any of you know translations (or approximation) for the moves in Kenshin? My Japanese teacher and I have tried on the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki and we found it was very difficult to express in English :\ Something like 'Rapid flashing lights of the dragon that arcs across the sky'. Like I said, it doesn't translate very well.

The other ones I know are Ko Huku Zetto Sei (Enishi's final move) which is something like 'The unstoppable force of the crouching/ambushing tiger' and Kuzu Ryu Sen, which is fairly obviously 'Nine-Headed Dragon Strike' or something.

As for the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu itself, the only translation I've heard is 'Way of the Sword of Divine Justice', but that I have no grounding for, linguistically :P

OK I have almost NO backing for these except my friend's fansub, but this is what they translated them as.

Ama Kakeru Ryu no Hirameki - Soaring Dragon's Inspiration

Again, I have no way to back this up other than Dragon = Ryu, but the gal who translated it is Japanese and native speaker. My guess is it's difficult to directly translate to English words and she may have just chosen something similar or that would work (shrug).

Soaring Dragon's insight/inspiration/etc. is accurate, and actually word-for-word.

Cool.

The reason I was a little skeptical is because my friend translated Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu to "Soaring Blade Style" therefore since there was no "Hiten" in the move I was unsure. I don't know about this one either, I know people are going to say Ryu means Dragon, but in this case, it is at the end and I'm fairly sure that refers to Technique/Style. Either way, I'm sure on this one as well.
