...not really, though you are supposed to be able to append avi segments (haven't gotten that to work personally) making it a linear editor
it can be used to help clean up video (though AviSynth is much better for that), transcode video, mux some audio and video together, demux video/audio.

Did you have the AMVapp installed?
Or are you putting the programs you need/use to make your amv's together bit by bit from different sources?
