I've always enjoyed making AMVs that mirror my own life at points. My AMVs are little creative outlets for myself. A kind of a way to vent my anger or express my happiness. I don't have any artistic talents (well, perhaps writing, but that doesn't count...), so this is a good means.

Plus, I've got a lot of good online friends built up between a-m-v.org and Re-Evo, so it's a fun experience for me to share as well.

Although I'd be lying if I didn't do it for a little attention too. XD I always love hearing when people like/enjoy my work and felt something from it. I don't do it exclusively for this reason though. If I did, it wouldn't be any fun!

I picked up the hobby from my sister, it's a fun activity to do together, and fun in general (except when it pisses me off).

Pandering and making videos that you enjoy yourself aren't mutually exclusive. I view pandering on a spectrum, and using super-popular anime and pop songs definitely makes you register on that scale regardless of motive.

Writing counts.

True, pandering can happen, but that's not my goal in the development process of videos.

because I have an idea that won't leave me alone until I do it myself.

I really don't know why I edit anymore, it's not as fun as it used to be, but I might just be in an emotional rut... or it could be a side effect of my medication.

I love anime and I love music... what other reason do you need? I guess it is pretty fun to try and turn the ideas I see in my head when I listen to music into an AMV. 8-)
I also like to edit to show off a new animes and try and get more people to watch them instead of staying mainstream and only watching Naruto and Bleach.

All the attention is fun too haha

I think at some level everyone has at least a little bit of this. Its great to hear praise for creating something that was fun to make.

I try to make amvs with a variety of emotions and story so part of it is to see peoples reactions and thoughts, other part of it is because I enjoy it.

Easy answer: Why not?
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

Why do I edit? Certainly not for fun and pleasure. The editing process is none of those. The fun stuff happens in the planning stage. The editing is a process by which I'm desperately trying to creative, which in my case basically means a lot of order and discipline. I just want to get the project done, just to make the idea in my head actually happen and be satisfied with the result. And ofcourse share it with the community 8-)

To get the ideas out of my head in a properly rendered fashion...Maddox said in one of his videos: "I could have written... remember that part where the kid drops the plate? Well imagine that kid singing the TMNT song over the intro. Hilarious right? No?"
"Uhmmm... You know... it was at that point that I realized that maybe Thierry wasn't actually a film maker, and he was maybe just someone with mental problems who happened to have a camera. " -Banksy
