the problem is that the wording is so vague that it can apply to most anime period. even school rumble could technically be banned as it shows kids in swimsuits and there is one notable character who is obsessed with stealing woman's underwear and grabbing boobs lol. There are some production companies who are refusing to publish works that involve highschool life PERIOD just because they are worried that they might somehow violate the ban.

It's all about the reaction of the sources.

And it would not be the first time a commercial operation just decided to go the easy route and ditch stuff as being the easier option.

It's right up there with anal levels of zero tolerance just to be safe from being sued.

No one wants to put a lot of time and money and effort into something and then find out it has been labeled in a way that kills the whole point of the product.

Sure you can sell outright porn variations of things, but, maybe you don't want your product in a porn friendly environment.

Disney for instance, oh there is no way they want to be labeled adversely. Which explains why their product looks the way it does.

Wizards of the Coast has taken D&D and turned it into such a fine family friendly game.

Sometimes change is good and sometimes not.

It's mostly a given, that a LARGE swath of anime would never have seen the light of day, if this whole process had happened in 1995 instead of 2010. Or at least a large swath of anime would have been radically altered.

My first anime of note I liked was Ranma 1/2. Good luck getting that out untouched. It was fine though for the late 80s early 90s.

Times change. Just watched ep 12 of Yosuga no Sora. That series likely has just about every element you'd need to get banished to a porn store now.

I don't think he will just squash it but he's taken a personal interest in the matter, this will have wide spread economic effects, especially with possible boycotts and cancellations of major events so he's not going to just stand on the sidelines.

And it looks like all the boycotters of the TAF (i.e. half the industry) are going to hold their own event @ Makuhari Messe the same weekend as a big 'fuck you' to Ishihara.

I see ... i see some people are getting pretty worked up about this. I'm sort of indifferent to it. I don't hate all anime without tits and guns, but i don't love all anime with them. So long as it's original and entertaining, I'll be good.

the anger is not about fanservice being threatened. It's that the rules of the ban are so incredibly vague that they could ban a huge variety of things which have nothing indecent. Anime involving highschool or middleschool students period could possibly be banned because they might have a scene showing a student engaging in "inappropriate behavior". there is no definition of inappropriate behavior so if the censors wanted to be anal they could technically ban a series just for having two students fall in love and having an intimate moment. Think of evangelion the movie for a moment
Spoiler :
In the scene where azuka is comatose and shinji is at her bed trying to wake her up he is shaking her and her top falls open. he ends up jacking off to her boobs. That right there would have been a good excuse to ban the whole project.
examples like that one above means that studios have to tip toe around when making a series as they have to make sure it's completely politically correct, just the simple possibility of having a project shut down is causing a lot of studios to drop projects involving lots of underage characters (highschool series in general) because they don't want to run the risk of having their project canned.

and while i'm not a fan of yaoi series, I do feel sorry for fans of BL since ANY homosexual type stuff is now dead and gone.
I don't know how they are going to make another to aru majetsu no index series as it actually breaks just about every rule put down. it's got index (who looks like a middleschooler) who is stripped or found naked by touma every other ep, it's got plenty of highschool boobage shots (also thanks to touma walking in on random girls) and then it's got a lesbian teleporter who is constantly assaulting another girl. This is the perfect example of how a perfectly good series may not be able to be continued simply because it contains a ton of elements that might get it banned.

We ought to be more worried about our own backyard. Almost any anime could be considered to contain child porn under U.S. law. Really, think about your favorite series, and you might find something in there that an overzealous DA could come after you for.

Food for thought.
