Far as codecs go, I do think that's why its suggested to submit early that way you can fix whatever is wrong with your video. As Troy said i was able to keep one of my vids out of DQ cause i submitted it early. He e-mailed me and we worked things out from there.

Likewise he's using VLC so get that look at your video in it with the DE-interlacing turned off. If it looks good enough to you chances it'll look good enough to the judges.

@melichan MPEG-4 compression for me required my video to at least be over 300mb to avoid visual artifacts at 720p. 1080p and under 200mb is almost impossible to achieve if you do not have a short video.

Yes, my video is over 4 minutes long so it would probably be impossible. Did you send through mail or a file sharing site?

I'm at 5 minutes, but I'm assuming its higher because I had to drop the resolution for some of my sources since not all of them were at a full 1080p.

If your AMV won't fit on a single layer DVD, there's something very wrong. I'm all about pristine video quality, but that sounds like an OCD level of effort there.

Well your Hard drive might feel better knowing when I downscale, the lagarith fits on a SL disk with plenty of space left over. The sync and quality look great to send along! My new problem? It plays perfect in every media player except VLC. *facepalm* With certain effects VLC totally skips them and just proceeds to the scene in front of the effect or gets laggy.

I don't think it's worth the risk either, unless I make note to only use the uncompressed for the contest if it gets in and put another MPEG or something on there along with it for the viewing but that seems sort of un-needed to do. I'm about to forfeit this quality battle, because you are right and I must get better from my AMV-converting OCD. I've been told in the past that I've been marked down for quality when I've used DVDs and tried my hardest to filter, so I'm trying extra hard to make sure things look good. But I guess my computer doesn't want to let me. It's paying me back for all the 8GB AMV renders I've been making.

That's because VLC is kinda shitty. It's meant to play everything, not play everything well. Definitely not something that should even be considered to be used in a serious playback environment.

I will welcome suggestions. I'm starting to become unimpressed with VLC as well. Apparently VLC relies on internal codecs rather than what codecs are installed on the machine, which is a recipe for problems. I'm about to tinker with KMPlayer.
