I read a short new about this aroung one week ago. It was more about Viacom wanted to attest that the success of sites like YT lies in copyright infrigment, that´s why they got the right to look at the users viewing history etc.

Am I wrong? Did something changed?

However I´m concerned about such a judgement. Viacom got far too much power with it and goes agains some rights as some linked articles here state.
You can find me on YT under "Bauzi514". Subscribe to never miss my AMV releases. :amv:

I kind of wish that instead of always being so dang anal about all of this, that they'd just start doing this little thing I've seen Kadokawa do.

Instead of ripping down every last thing (which won't happen anyway), just let people know, "yea, this is ours." Obviously that uploader doesn't have right to Suzumiya Haruhi, but you don't see Kadokawa punishing him/her for that do you? Nope, and that, my friends, is good PR in my book.
... yea ...

Napster
Supernova
Mytube

What do they all have in common?

They're visible easy targets.

I suppose Blog services, and web sites like the Org and any service that publicly makes itself known, and identifiable like My Space and Facebook will all eventually be in this same spotlight.

Viacom actually likely believes it's doing "the right thing".

I refer to Terry Goodkind's Wizards Second rule. "Even a good deed can do harm"

Screw Viacom, and screw the entire industry if they think they can mindlessly go running around hysterically insisting this that and the other thing.

The truth is, anyone that is pirating, anyone that is REALLY downloading anything at all, anyone that is an actual threat to the industry, doesn't use Mytube to do it.

When I actually want to download something, I use a newsgroup like anyone with an ounce of brains does. I can have their f**king dvd in under 90 minutes if I actually want it.
Mytube is not even interesting to me. It's only an amusement for bored teens if you ask me.

Fortunately I'm Canadian, and US law has the same value to me as used toilet tissue.
Anime, one of the few things about the internet that doesn't make me hate the internet.

i thought i had read that they are given information on what users are watching but not IP addresses. And i believe viacom stated that they wouldn't use this data to pursue legal action against the users but only use it for their current legal proceedings with google/youtube. I'll try and find that source later.

I'm still against the ruling as I feel that they don't need to know what each user watches.

I've never seen that, and I like it. I'm talking about Kadowaka.
