Can't believe I remember this...

Hana Yori Dango has a scene of a boy putting ants on a paper plane and flying it.

I think I should had mentioned dramatic use of paperplanes not parodic or such

but thanks everyone. Going to have to check out Macross Frontier especially.

Macross Frontier: The main character Alto Saotome (早乙女アルト, Saotome Aruto?) folds paper planes and throws them in the air..

I remember him doing it with Ranka and also in ep 5 in the shopping mall which motivates ranka to sing.
