Ah, but the soap opera was not a 43 episode extravangaza full of youth, passion, and the power to motivate an entire planet. :)

Nadesico's review episode also makes you wonder, if we watch anime, does it watch back? 0_o

If the girl has grayish hair, it is almost surely Ruri. She's actually just slightly more emotionally responsive than Rei, which in my opinion is a good thing. Her seiyuu is Minami Omi who has done such quiet yet memorable characters as Hyatt from Excel Saga, and Kozue from Onegai Teacher.

I found the series to be entertaining to begin with, but really started to bore me about 10 episodes or so from the end. Probably more. As soon as it started using Ruri as a vehicle of fanservice, it just lost it for me.

The Gekiganger III OVA was really classy though.

Yay! Uh-oh... the Rei figure around my neck might get jealous...

Sorry, but that means nothing to me. I'm only familiar with the characters from 3 anime series :)

Ruri? Fanservice?

I don't remember fan service for Ruri...

I thought it to be incredibly funny when she kicked that machine to make it work... :P

I don't remember fanservice though. The movie is defintely worth checking out to see grown-up Ruri, who has a very defining prescence to her.

yeah....older ruri rocks the casba. The original series was very good in my opinion. One of the first series I started colleting. Good humor and plot as well. The movie is very confusing if you don't know about the two novels that take place between the end of the first series and the movie. They never really do fully explain what happened. A definate change of pace from the series in terms of feel. Prince of darkness was much more dark and serious and sort of depressing, but it had lots of good elements in it as well.

It wasn't so much fanservice as an 'OMG she's the hottest' paedophilic attitude from various members of the crew. The main instance that comes to mind was in the 'captain for a day' singing competition.

I am all for Ruri fanservice what the hell is wrong with that???? Anyway Nadesico is good up until the end the end blows chunks ((((((((((WARNING SPOILER)))))))) The conflict with the jovians is never settled same problem as Neia under 7 and captain tylor have. More complete than those two but still no ending.

What's there to end in Niea Under 7? It felt like a short glimpse into the lives of a few regular (and not so regular) people, and I liked that. It ends on an upbeat note, doesn't wrap everything up into a nice, tidy package, and leaves a GOOD opening for another season.

I love Nadesico. It was one of my first anime, and it's a great, fun series.

That being said, don't waste your money on the domestic release. Besides the fact that they used the TV version instead of the cleaned up and reworked version released on VHS/LD/DVD in Japan, it's overlayed to hell and they are ass-ugly. I've seen AMV's with better compositing than these.

I don't think Amazon.com sells the Japanese discs...
