There's at least some truth to that- the last I heard was that the Iron Editor was scheduled opposite one of the Red Apple showings, not panels. This means Alan will have to be running back and forth between the two supporting the technical issues, but it's not quite as bad as if it were a panel he was supposed to be on.

The Iron Editor is essentially getting screwed room-wise by being stuck in the same tiny Workshop room we had last year as well, in spite of the Programming guy who was there at the end making note of the fact we had enough people for a much larger room and assuring me they would see about getting us a larger one next year.

Wow and here I was intending to submit in 2007 (with a triumphant return! >_>), but it seems AMVs are just going down the metaphorical shitter at Otakon.

...and this used to be my favorite contest to submit to :(.

And like others John, we realize the AMV staff has probably done their best to avoid this and thus none of us blame you.

Perhaps all of us should sign a petition together and send it to the con chair prior to the con? I seriously doubt it will accomplish anything, but it's worth a shot. Can they really ignore all of us?

Probably.

If the staff was anticipating a large interest in the event then why in the hell did they a room that only seats 750?!

Uh, isn't the first AMV contest usually late Friday night? What could possibly be going on then that would take precedence? It doesn't even have to be in Main Events! What about Video 1? Or even Video 2? How did it get bumped down to Video 7??
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Heh. Aaactually.... the con chair apparently already knows about it. I made a somewhat less than pleased post to the Otakon boards regarding this (I'm still mildly annoyed it was moved from the 'Public Discussion' to the AMV Contest forum, and am working on getting it moved back) which the con chair apparently either saw himself or was told about and said he'd look into why exactly this happened. Doesn't mean by any stretch that it will mean it gets fixed, but at least it got someone's attention.

Hsien- I think there may be a concert going on Friday night- but that would be at the Arena and not have any affect on the rooms in the BCC AFAIK. I'm guessing they don't want to be swapping between the old Main Events setup and the breakup they have now, but they could at the least have put it in Hall A (the hangar) or the largest room the breakup of Main Events resulted in (Theater 1, I believe- holds 1,500 people).

What is it about the biggest conventions trying to pound AMV's in the brown eye?

ACen's contest was run well, but it got moved down to relatively much smaller room.

AX had a lot of shit going on with the contest, but at least they still had a large showing.

Now Otakon. Wow.

Next year they'll have us set up a little table in the con hallway with a laptop to show the contest. That'd be AWESOME.

Believe it or not, that happened to us at Connecticon during the AMV panel - they put us in a panel room without any AV equipment, so I had to go get my laptop and we ran the second half of the panel in a hallway...

Otakon Con Chair wrote: No. No there is not. Time to enforce Operation: Tighty Whitey
John wrote: Right. Cram everything into a small, restricting place so that, no matter what the situation, nobody is the winner.

At least, I'm pretty sure thats how the conversation went.

How do I know? I know. My Gut tells me I'm right.
