Anyhow, it doesn't really matter who is to blame as such, you got the general idea that CCCP will solve many hassles with no hassle just fine (hey, that could be a slogan).

For what it's worth, I'm kind of unofficial CCCP staff. Basically I went there one day to give them a heads up about a new feature in libavcodec (one of the files FFDShow uses), they gave me half op status and we got discussing H.264 from this thread which raised some interest because of my long posts :p (there were 23+ pages and ~30,000 views before it was lost at the beginning of 2006 due to hackers)

I tend to idle around in their channel and help people when I can. Mostly I help out with MP4/H.264/AAC related things since a lot of the staff are MKV fans, and thus lack experience with MP4.

I think the level of support they provide is great considering they aren't doing it for any reward, other than helping people watch anime.

Well a nice converter for MKV/OGM to AVI is jMEnc2.
It was orginally started as that converter but evolved to a MP4 also , as well as a PMP converter.
