You should try Smart Ripper or DVD Decryptor.

Your codecs shouldn't matter for playing back your vobs, unless the program you are using right now converts them into something different...

Also I believe that 740x576 is a Pal resolution. I'm not sure why you would get 720x570 though.

For more information on obtaining source from your dvds you can go here.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but the idea of EDITING in Anamorphic is rather daunting. Having to spend the entire time in the project while the aspect ratio looks bizarre. Plus, you still can't make an AVI release that's anamorphic. I 'd rather scale out to 854x480, edit, make psudo-high definition DivX release, downscale for anamorphic DVD distrobution and sharing.

You don't even know what anamorphic is, do you? -.-; All that is about dealing with anamorphic source material, not making an anamorphic AVI. You CAN'T do anamorphic AVI files, it only handles 1:1, it dosn't have aspect ratio flags. The DivX Player can manually switch around the aspect ratio, but that's player specfic, and it can't tell from the video file itself.
