blue-ray, the new dvd ?

I don't think you could even back up a DVD in Huffyuv with 50 MB, or could you? When I made my Wolf's Rain video, I wanted to encode the entire episode in Huffyuv, and I believe it came out to be something like 25 minutes = 10 GB. So, assuming that figure to be true, 125 minutes (5 full episodes) = 50 GB. Goodbye Blu-Ray disc.

With lossless codecs that support YV12 colorspace, like VBLE, you might be able to pull it off.

I don't know why you'd ever want to do something like that, though

Well, maybe backup AMV projects to a couple of Blu-ray discs...

The inevitable problem with optical data storage is that as the lasers (and resulting tracks) become increasingly narrow, the data becomes increasingly susceptible to being screwed up by dirt, scratches, etc.

I already do that with CD-Rs

but project files are only a few kB anyway

Yes but if you back it up the way I think Trythil is talking about if you ever want to make any changes to a project all you'd have to do is copy everything from the Blu-ray disk because with that much storage you could copy everything including the source files.
