Last year 2 of my vids made with WMM were nominated for VCA's, it can be done.

But keep in mind, as good as that vid was, and as inspiring as Euphoria is for effect lovers - effects won't make a video. Sure, you may get some wows from the easy viewers, but most people require something to go with those effecst. The reason Euphoria is top on the list here isn't because of the effects - it's because those effects are added to something that's already good. By themselves, effects are meaningless.
.
Besides, as I heard,
Euphoria was done with a cheap ass music editing software (plugin's?) and mspaint.

You can do anything with mspaint (free) or gimp (free) if you try hard enough.

I notice that nearly all, including whats-his-face's Shameless Rock Video, have some sort of heavy Effect work inside them. How in the hell can a WMM user possibly compete with that?
Another WMM user. :)

That's all I have to use as well. But people say I have a fairly good grasp for scene selection and making the anime work with the song. I guess that's more important.

I have no fancy tricks up my sleeve. I'm not capable of them, which is a shame because I have a few ideas for vids that require such special effects to create the image I'm looking for. It can be frustrating at times knowing that I have to wait until I can make it.

Scintilla (my boyfriend/critic/tutor/studio partner), on the other hand, certainly outshines me as far as the effects are concerned hands down (owning Premiere Pro will do that). It's an undeniable fact. But he keeps telling me that I have good ideas....a lot. I just have to be exposed to more anime. I admit most of my ideas are NGE related... No senseless mecha action though.
